“The Delvers had a double handicap advantage against the RDW's, but between Morley's Revenge and I Am The Greatest the two teams were more evenly matched, 9 men each. Bad luck with his TreeMan rooted one more in spot early in almost every drive, but the Delvers were unable to capitalize on the advantages they were given until the end of the game.
The Delvers started off, with 4 turns of maneuvering before they were in a favorable position to punt deep to an empty quarter of the field- but the "Passer" bobbled the ball, and caught it again, leaving him hanging in the breeze. The RDW's blitzed, gathered the ball, caged up, and, despite a self-inflicted Serious Inury that put them down 9 men to 8, ran a Blitzer off beyond reach to score easily next turn The Delvers had stunned almost every other player on the field, but had yet to even Knock Out a single player. With 2 turns left, the Delvers set up for a flood of the RDW's backfield, but a bobbled hand off ended any chance to tie the score before half.
A Rainy second half started with the RDW's receiving and up 1-0, but still down a player, 9:8, on a field that was looking a little empty in places. That only got worse as RDW remedied the imbalance when they Killed a player (apo having been used earlier to save an Ag 5 player from a -MA Serious Injury!), and caged up midfield, but using their only RR to do so. The Delvers surrounded, and with a lucky block pushed a player across the ball, which squirted thru the rain-slick hands of several players and out a corner of the cage, where it sat for a full pair of turns as the two teams pushed for a clear pick up opportunity. But a down Delver's Ag 5 player stood up and stumbled clear with the ball with a RR, then got a screen from several player next turn near the goal, and GFI'd twice to get in for the tying score with 4 turns left to decide the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, Morley's Revenge did not strike, giving the Delvers a key 9:8 man edge, and the kickoff bounced deep and near the sidelines of the RDW endzone as they took advantage of a Quick Snap to move forward in an attempt to savage the Delver front line. However, as Nuffle would have it, the pick-up attempt by the RDW Thrower was muffed into the stands, and malicious fans threw the ball almost back to midfield, and on an undefended flank! The Delvers swarmed 3 men around that flank, picked up the ball and (this time successfully!) punted deep to that corner, away from any RDW player! The RDW Treeman knocked himself down, leaving only the lone Thrower to challenge the ensuing Delver cage, but he tripped, and the Delvers used their last RR to recover the ball and go in for the score.
Altho' Coach AlanHasek may have felt off balance and at disadvantage, the Delvers did not dominate as the pre-game numbers might have predicted, and only bad luck at the worst of moments prevented him from achieving a tie or scoring the winning goal. If he can get a full team dressing up for the kick off, he'll be a serious contender!
Starting to feel very hard done by lol, bought hired an apothecary from the local town, nobody checked his license or his alchohol habits, he has clearly been drunk since his appointment and couldn't even apply a bandage properly.
Maglor finally showed his promise seeing his heavily armoured cousins faultering in the rain and made a dash for the flank beyond prying hands, a great play sure to be highlighted for future lessons.
