Against all the odds and from being 2-0 down at half time the Buckland Brewers gathered around a fresh barrel of Buckland Stout for their team talk. Much singing and laughter ensued, echoing down the hall and no doubt worrying the Wood Elfs with their eternal optimism.
As the whistle blew for the second period the fired up Halflings took to the field looking to make amends for the rather unfortunate first half. Meriadoc received the touchback and was catapulted through the air, landing majestically and running the ball home in the first turn.
The Brewers fans went wild and sensed the impossible might just become reality.
Soon the Brewers began blocking and blitzing like their lives depended upon it. In quick succession the Elfs were forced into the dugout suffering broken ribs and groin strains from the ferocious tackling of the Brewers. Barktooth and Burzhosh swept away the frail Elfs in the centre of the field allowing Orgulas and his team mates to sweep into the Elf half. Forcing a fumble they pounced on the ball and thanks to some superb marking around the field Sancho Foxburr ran the ball home during an exciting finale.
A halfling running play, the crowd went wild. The result might have been a draw but the festivities suggested a famous victory.
If only Meriadoc hadn't fallen in the first half, only metres from the endzone!!!”
