“What Malthor neglected to mention in his report was that I only conceeded after the five man DP-foul on one of my best players, which I considered completely unnecessary under the circumstances (his team was nearly 50tr up, he already had a number advantage on the field and had easily turned me over to take the ball and had complete control of the pitch). He confirmed his reasonings behind the foul in the same IRC chat he has quoted out of context in his own report.
[17:06] <Malthor-IG-SWL> dang, that puts me way behind in my Silver Boot quest with a concession and two forfeits
Glad to know it was tactical and relevant to our game, and not just someone playing 50tr down who fouls for bragging rights. For the record, that was the very first thing he said after the game ended.
This was the actual reasoning behind my decision to conceed, he only thought to quote the final line:
[17:08] <Virral> yeah, i didn't see the point when im playing 50 tr up, totally outclassed and i start getting gangfouled
[17:08] <Virral> id rather just play the next game with no winnings but all my guys
[17:08] <Malthor-IG-SWL> you still had an apoth
[17:09] <Redaway> you're a bit precious about fouls arent you :P
[17:09] <Virral> not at all, its just common sense
[17:09] <Virral> i was going to loose anyway, at least this way i guarentee no injuries
[17:09] <Redaway> could have let him score :P
[17:09] <Malthor-IG-SWL> but you could have maybe got a cas or pass for your troubles
[17:09] <Malthor-IG-SWL> wait until the turn you use your apoth
[17:09] =-= Malthor-IG-SWL is now known as Malthor
[17:10] <Malthor> anyways, your team, your choice
[17:10] <Virral> no, im not going to help you develop your team in the fragile hope for a few spp
So yes I was willing to play my game completely outmatched and outnumbered, but I was not willing to unnecessarily endanger my players to someone fouling me for fun when he has total control of the game. Either way I end up beaten, and considering he had already started laying in with the boot and had two more DP apart from the one he was using, I have no doubt that whatever winnings I did receive would not replace the dead and injured. I did not consider the chance for one or two SPP from completions worth risking my players to the boot, simple as that.
This concession was purely tactical, as it preserves my team from someone who fouls pointlessly and denys the top ranked team in my conference a free ticket to harvest SPP. I understand why people might not agree with the decision, but conceeding is a part of the game in the same way that fouling is, and I have no problem with the decision whatsoever.
But he is right about one thing, one of the people playing this match DOES make a total mockery of the SWL. Thankfully coaches such as Malthor are extremely uncommon within the SWL.”
“Handicaps were Doom and Gloom and Smelling Salts.
Opponent had horrid luck with his Rat Ogre, with a triple skulls block turn 1 and then a double skulls block on turn 3.
He was outnumbered early with 2 players KOd and one BH, and conceded on his 4th turn? before I got the chance to score. Opponent still had his apothecary and smelling salts to bring his KO players back.
When asked why he did not stick it out longer and get at least a completion or cas for his team and wait at least until his apothecary was used:
<Virral> no, im not going to help you develop your team in the fragile hope for a few spp.
Weak effort and makes a mockery of the SWL. ”
