“I should have won this one, but it just shows you that anything can happen in a game. Morg really didn't make a big difference in the game, and in hindsight I probably should have freebooted Varag, if only to deny him to Demiurge. Although my luck shows at 57%, it is the failed rolls that were always key. Losing my ogre on the 2nd block of the game certainly didn't help matters any. I kept failing important blocks, and Aequitas was quick to exploit the opportunity. He played well and deserved the championship. ”
“This was the Final for the Great White North Tournament.
I really didn't think Demiurge had any chance at all, and I felt bad for not picking Bolgrot over Varag (since Macros chose Morg). But Varag did nothing but good things all game, and Leader really helped give me confidence (3 re-rolls instead of 2 does make a major impact).
I won the toss and chose to receive, but to my great dismay the Greenskins rolled Blitz and things looked very grim indeed. BUT! On the second block of the game (after Morg brought a black orc down), Alley Cat (Ogre for the Molson Greenskins) rolls double skulls and was seriously injured (-1AG)!
After this things really looked bright. Varag picked up the ball and ran down the right side of the field with a defensive perimeter around him. My opponent set his players around mine and kept me from getting through. As a last resort I ran a lone lineman up the field with the purpose of throwing a long pass to him. With a risky 1 dice block, and a 1 dice blitz (pow, then dodge respectively). Thinking what I'm about to do will fail I foul a block line-orc with my dirty player, badly hurting him. I then run Varag through the newly formed hole, throw the ball and roll a 1.. re-roll, 6! Catches on a 5!
This gave me a touchdown on turn 4. We setup, I roll changing weather, no change, still nice bloodbowl weather. On the third block his black orc rolls double skulls, re-roll double skulls. He forgot to move his thrower closer to the ball, so I maneuver a blitzer around his guys, make 2 GFI and am about 7 squares away from the ball, forcing him to blitz my guy or throw the ball. Next turn he picked up and threw (after making a few blocks), but his player failed to catch the ball, with a re-roll.
With some more luck, I managed to strategically get a hold of the ball, and eventually push through and score with Varag. On the last turn of the half, I setup put 2 lineorcs and 1 black orc on the line (only half 3 line-orcs and would not dare put DP on the LoS). I roll blitz.. dodge both line-orcs away, try dodging BO away with re-roll, he falls and becoming a punting victim. Opponent surrounds him with 9 guys and fouls, seriously injuring him.. used APO (needed him, only have 1 other black orc, my other was missing with my thrower), but his line-orc was ejected, but he rolled a 6 and stayed in. He did have another line-orc ejected at some point earlier though.
The last half was more or less the same, with Morg getting badly hurt on a foul from my DP (who was sent off for his efforts on a 6). After a risky play the Greenskins did get the ball down field a little ways, but I knocked down his blitzer, picked up the ball again (never failed once to pick up and I didn't have a thrower) and moved down field. Eventually I would throw the ball with a blitzer to a line-orc with 5SPP, he would throw it next turn to another line-orc with 5spp who would score on the last turn to make it 3-0.
It should be noted that if his ogre had not been hurt so early this game would probably be 3-0 for him instead. But Nuffle works in mysterious ways sometimes.
Good game Macros2000, you played well and should have won if not for the luck.
