“The Sweethearts got their first REAL league win tonight in an extremely close and hard-fought encounter...
In the first half the Lizards scored a swift touchdown, thanks to some brave running by lone Skink Hurry, who, true to his name, took on the entire Sweethearts backfield and emerged victorious in the endzone.
After this, the girls looked to be onto a good drive with some un-Pras-like passes, but their drive was quickly shut down on the flanks by the strong Lizards. Just when things looked hopeless, and possession had beeen lost, up-coming star Emilie stepped up and made a big rushing/passing play that saw Elva take the ball in for the half time score of 1-1.
In the second, the Sweethearts drive seemed to be going as in the first., ie well at first and then shut down in the backfield. However the Lizards' big guy forgot where he was at a crucial moment, allowing Evangeline to dodge a few tackles and take the ball home early.
The irony here was that the same big guy had all but stopped the Sweetheart's drive in the first, just prior to Emilie's big play.
Next it was the Lizards' turn, with plenty of time to spare. They advanced well downfield, but at the late stages Star tackler Kelly broke free and brought down the ball carrier close to the endzone. The Sweethearts then did what they do best, shutting down the football. However, despite almost insurmountable odds, the Lizards again regained possession but were unable to make further progress until the final whistle blew.
Said coach Prasomchai, "The girls played extremely well tonight, coming back from behind to etch out a tough win. I couldn't be more pleased, especially with our new passing dimension! Now why did it never work out in training?!"
"I'd like to say that my opponent played very well and, on another day, the scoreline could easily have been reversed. Well played! The efforts of the players, not coaches, were the difference today."
