“I can not do a detailed report on this match as it was imediately after this game that I found myself hastily ejected from FUMBBL for 4 weeks.
History has a funny way of being written by the victors and so it shall be here!!
"The Machine destroyed the Sweethearts outclassing them in everyway, including looks, and coaching for that matter too ^^"
Seriously though this was a hard tactical game in which the cage of the Orcs was the predominant feature of the game. Forcing the girls to play on the back foot and deeper in their own half than was prefered, the Machine aimed for possesion as the surest means of defense agaisnt that master of breaking from deep...the wiley old cayote called Prasomchai!!
The cage upfield has not been one of Russo's traditional strategies, but more and more so now he is learning the security that it offers outweighs the risks of wing-play.
By keeping the advance nice and slow and by reducing blocking opportunities for the Zons, the game's flow was very difficult for the STR3 Zons to break up, considering the cage had three STR4 players and a roaming STR5 player in the mix too. Near the death of the first half the Orcs started to open up to allow for more than one opportunity to score, and the Sweethearts saw there first sniff of the ball.
By moving in and maximising the tackle zones on all the players around the ball carrier, they hoped to pressure the Orcs into a mistake and, and prevent the score that had looked only seconds away.
The Orcs achieved the blocks required and moved the ball across the line, though in the process they did some fearsome damage on the poor fragile "'uman chikz".
In the second half the Orcs were defending desperately when suddenly a great interception by Hard Harry the BOB, saw the Orcs secure the ball, and take it away from the Sweethearts. 1-0 The Machine!!
Part two of the crucial double-header complete and 6 points taken from 6!!
Great game if one that saw too high a price placed on the Sweethearts heads.
The result was always in doubt until that interception late in the second half.
#7 Elisha – Dead (RIP) #9 Lucy – Dead (RIP) #11 Carmen – Dead (RIP)
“This was a fine match, with sound coaching from both sidelines but, for all the excitement of the occasion, it was the aftermath that created the biggest stir...
The Machine received first and were making very slow progress down field, not looking like a score, until some lax offensive positioning allowed the Sweethearts to pressurize the ball carrier. Unfortunately for them, doing so allowed the Orcs to get some blocks in, and ultimately score late on against just 4 girls! Coach Prasomchai reported afterwards that he wondered whether the offensive gaps were a clever ploy from his opponent, or just poor play...
^@^
From here on in things weren't pretty for the Sweethearts, and no fewer than 3 players were killed! In fact, it would have been 4 but for the superb efforts of the franchise physician.
Despite this, the girls gave it their best shot and kept the Machine on their toes for the entire second half. In fact, a miracle interception from the unlikeliest source, Hard Harry, may have been the key factor in keeping the score at 1-0.
Coach Prasomchai was unavailable for his usual post-match interview, as he headed a large procession of mourners, coordinating developments as the bodies of Carmen, Lucy and Elisha were carried respectfully from the stadium to swiflty-requested ambulances. Post-game traffic was brought to a standstill by the procession, and a lavish funeral is predicted this coming weekend.
Carmen, Lucy and Elisha, your service to the franchise will always be remembered!
^^
Meanwhile, the Machine advance up the ranks and, with some new-found abilities, are looking for their first playoff appearence in the AFL. If they can keep up this level of intensity, who can stand in their way?”
