A bloody day this turned out to be - and for once, it was not just my half-eaten thralls! After suffering 2 massive losses in the post season of the NBL Inaugural Tournament, including the death of 2 dirty thralls in one match and a star vampire in the next, Royal Bloodlines realized they had to reform the team and start again at a lower competition level.
When they learned that their opponents were to be dodging women, the team nearly disbanded rather than put in a shameful and possibly team destroying loss. Fortunately the new thrall hired before the match looked particularly delicious, and thus the vampires hit the pitch with blood on their minds!
Besides an early first half OFAB, the vampires performed flawlessly, pulling off an occasional hypnotic gaze, but mostly trying to make the best out of their Mighty Blow skills, which had mostly seemed like a waste so far. Although the vamps fell short of causing casualties 3 times when they rolled 8s on the injury table, the thralls were inspired and inflicted the damage their masters were failing to cause. All together they did 1 MNG, 1 Niggle, and 1 RIP (which was saved), while the star thrall laid in the boot on turn 8 of the first half when it was impossible to score or make an easy pass; with the assistance of Lord Murder and Minion, he caused a MNG on the lady's ST4 thrower.
The 2nd Half was incredibly interesting - first the Zons were decimated, then they threw a -2d blitz with strip ball, stole the ball, and ran 3/4 of the way down. With a few lucky GFI I blitzed and took Pow/Skull 2 turns in a row, eventually stealing the ball back, and running it downfield for the miracle T16 TD. Surprised to not even suffer anything worse than a BH all game, Royal Bloodlines looks forward to the games ahead: the Duke of Gore has been reincarnated and yearns to show off his natural prowess once again!”
“A brutal game for Embrace the Wind. First we attempt to take out the thrall dirty player, but fail and the ref spots and ejects Storm. Later the thrall dirty player nails one of our girls for a serious injury. Overall, at the end of the game only 3 amazons were left on the field and even still, it the vampires needed a pickup, handoff, dodge, pass to thrall before they were able to score the only TD on the last play of the game. It was a hard fought game, but one that may do perm damage to Embrace the Wind. Two players gained skills from the match - unfortunately both of them aged as well. So of the 11 players that began the day, only 6 remain healthy, 3 have niggling injuries now and we will be short several players for our next match. A well played game by the vampires, they suffered only 2 badly hurt players and also got great cash which should increase their strength for the coming rounds of the tournament.”
