“With the memories of our last meeting in mind in addition to the news that our opponent now fielded not 1, but 2 players with claws in addition to their Rat Ogre, there was some concerns in the locker room. Indeed, our only tackle player and leader of our team for the second game in a row looked like he would be sitting on the bench as his niggling injury was acting up again. So for the second game in a row, the apothecary was used before the match even began so our star player could be on the field.
The match however turned out much different than the previous meeting. With the majority of our players having block...our team having tackle and our opponents not having tackle. In addition to our guard players - the odds quickly ended up in our favor with the blocking going our way and we played it safe - not following up blocks or marking many of the rats - instead, dodging away and playing it safe.
The opening drive saw mishaps that put the wood elves up 1-0 and the first half ended with the wood elves up 2-1. The real turning point was early in the second half. The pass blocking gutter runner darted out from between some elves and snagged a pass that would have gone for a TD...the turnover resulted with the gutter runner on the goal line...gfi for the score and tie the game? No RR available, the rats wait - but this proved fatal. A leaping tackler wardancer could not take down the gutter runner. However, on the next turn, a failed gfi by the rats allowed Asher another block and this time the gutter runner was down and the ball was free - all in one turn, the ball went down the field on handoff and pass for the score and it was 3-1 and the game was essentially over. A nifty leap, block and then steal by the 2 wardancers working together resulted in a 4-1 lead before the rats scored on T16.
Overall, it was a fun game...although the rats were very disorganized and certainly did not play to their potential. It was good to get revenge for our earlier loss and we look forward to the rubber match!”
