“A game of mistakes? Comedy of errors more like, as both teams did their best Chuckle Brothers impressions, giving the 32,000 screaming fans fumble after fumble.
The Widowmaker carried on where he had left off, injuring Elven lineman Web Darkwind in the early midfield skirmish.
The Terrors looked to have been on course to repeat their previous victory, after making the most of a fumbled throw by chitter Rag-ear. Ithildan Starsong continued his blistering form to the season by running in.
The second half was a different story however and the sheer weight of numbers of the skaven horde began to take it's toll. The possession the Spiders had been getting was eventually converted into something positive: A throw dropped by cather Whisper Rustbalde was in turn fumbled by the bungling elves. And who was there to pick up the pieces? None other than benchwarming thrower Vineweed, who repeated his MVP of last game with a Spiders club record rush and pass rate. A contender for team captain maybe? Whatever the team politics, he linked up beautifully with Bilious Warpsike, who became the first scorer of the new season.
Lightning really did (Warp)strike twice after that (and not just because the Spiders had emloyed a wizard!). With the fragile elves only managing to field 8 players, Warpstrike took a loose ball and powered home to snatch the win.
With Elven starlet Steve Larchsong targeted out of the game, the Treetop Terrors were looking decidedly ordinary.....
And so the Sewer Spiders departed with a victory, leaving behind a trail of destruction and some nasty things in the changing room toilets. ”
