“The Deadmens Greatest victory so far, though not their greatest game.
We had a start to the match that had to be aborted due to a disconnection from me after a blitz at the first kickoff by Flo. The ball dissapeared on all subsequent reloads so we had to start again.
From the restart the Deadmen recieved and were all over the shop. I made atleast 4 obvious mistakes up til turn 6 or 7 and I just couldn't focus on the game at hand. We were blessed by nuffle with decent dice through the game though, and when dice went wrong there was invariably a skill reroll or a team reroll to be used to save it. Flo forced a dodge out of RR who fell over and the ball was subsequently pushed free by some cunning pushing and into the hands of Tetsugyu Concentration. Well thought I was gone, but I put in a really good turn of hemming him in whithout over comitting to any one side. He was forced down low and eventually he hit JYD with a 2d blitz (foolish hey) and it was dbl skulls time. Tetsugyu fell over but not before he politely dropped the ball in JYD's hands. From there the Mums cleared a tackle zone off him and he sprinted 10 squares for the TD in the nick of time.
2nd half and we were able to stop the drive before it crossed halfway. We managed to get several bodies into the Adepts cage and forced a 1D block on CFB that came up skulls and rerolled skulls. The poor Hobgob with the ball was left standing face to face with Andre who smacked him down with a clothesline. A blitz on Testugyu put him down and Rick Rude gathered up the ball and ran well clear of any chasers. It was a massive turn from the Deadmen, with everyone in the Adepts cage being stunned and a few others around the ground as well. Next turn The handoff was made to JYD who was waiting in the end zone (the handoff was rerolled) and we went up 2 zip.
We then kept the Adepts out for the remaining 3 or 4 turns, with one of the Mummies trailing Testugyu all the way back to the end zone and keeping him under control. Gorilla Monsoon was crowd surfed late in the game, as he was a little too good at staying on his feet for his own good. Unfortunately he Landed in the Adepts Wives Box and was Seriously injured and will never be the same.
The Mummies, though light on Cas, were powerhouses this game. Standing Firm when needed but Mobile enough to be able to keep a raging bull subdued out in the field. 12 and 10 blocks between them says enough really.
2 fouls? yeah. really this season has been done without last season impact from fouling. the first 3 games they got sent off as soon as they even looked at somebody lying down having a nap. this game we just didnt get the chance to free up players and I made some elementary miscalculations at times and couldnt get the dps where i wanted them. Hopefully It will click into gear for next half of the season but already the silver boot is out of reach. *tears*
I shouldn't have won this, shouldnt even have got a draw. but Nuffle makes us all his bitches and we shouldnt question it.
Twahns:
3 points : #16 Tetsugyu Concentration - A Raging Bull, perhaps not as explosive as past Adepts Bulls but the ma 7 and break tackle made him a constant mobile force to be reckoned with. He made a great play to gather the ball in the first half only to brought down by tackling technique.
2 points : #11 Ryushin - his tackle and dp made him a problem that Seemed to be always in the scrum and worrying my fragile ghouls.
1 point : #2 Ino Thought - Standfirm lends this dwarf a Rock like quality. He held up a flank and in a few turns absorbed 3 seperate blocks without going anywhere, making me change my plans.”
T'was still quite a fun and entertaining match to play with a lot of midfield shoving and then endzone sprinting.
Twahnloes:
3 Points: Andre the Giant - A rock, and unmoveable rock. He was the touchstone that prevented our counter when we needed it most.
2 points: Junkyard Dog - Fast! And resilient to my fouling attempts this tough old man did the damage on the scoreboard
1 point: Giant Baba II - Another behemoth of the middle his bulk and chasing abilities were crucial to stopping both our offensive drives.”
