“A phoenix rises from the ashes.. And it didn't come from the drains!
After having the core of the team decimated in the previous game with Sack Magic, the Sewer Spiders were looking for a recovery game against a weaker opposition. Who better than old rivals the Treetop terrors, who had also been torn apart by the Sacks, right? Wrong.
The elves took to the pitch in a virtually empty stadium with a determination and steel that left the Spiders still in a satte of uncertainty. Three times in the game, debut rookie thrower Venom Halfight was sacked and this uncertainty spread through the team, despite starting a man up.
Steve Larchsong twice pounced on the ball that had been spilled by the flattened Halflight and showed his return to form by running home easy touchdowns.
The Terrors also showed a glimmer of their old class with a fantastic long range throw to Talloak Sparrowgold who clung onto the ball and pulled clear of the farcical Spiders defence.
This was the final straw for the Spiders, who began to fall apart arguing with themselves. Yet worse was to come: just before the end of the match, a jubilant Talloak Sparrowgold speared a prone Obscurux Ghost. The crowd drew breath in horror as Ghost's internal organs swapped places with his fur. It was a gruesome end to the captain's illustrious career. In the words of teh Terrors coach "He's a real ghost now!"
The skaven trudged off the field, broken. With an apparent after game fight, and players going their own ways, the future is uncertain. It looks like the spiders might have finally been eaten by the fly.
And what of the Terrors? With Eltharion Stargazer out of the picture afetr suffering a niggling back injury, they are still down to the bare skeleton of a team. Do these acorns have what's needed to grow to oaks? Only time will tell....
