The first half looked pretty grim for the Grudgebearers. One of our runners, Mogan Quicksilver, was stunned by a rock tossed by the Blood Sox fans on the opening kickoff (rest assured, we retrieved the rock and will return it to it's owner....) and trollslayer Morak Stoneheart was soon sent into the stands by a blitz from Gridash Loveblood, earning the Black Ork the first entry in our Book of Grudges. Fortunately the trollslayer is a tough bastard and was merely stunned by the frenzied mob. With these injuries, combined with the sheer brute strength and excellent playing of the Black Sox team, it seemed the Dwarves were going to be in for a tough fight even to tie the game towards the end of the first half when the Orks completely outmanuvered us and waltzed unopposed into the Grudgebearer's endzone to take the lead.
It's unlikely that it affected the score, but the Grudgebearers were denied an opportunity to respond to the Black Sox's touchdown when the frenzied fans went on a rampage that ate up the remainder of the first half.
Dwarven toughness allowed us to weather the first half with the team still intact, and our luck began to turn in the second. The Ork's relative lack of blocking skill began to take its toll and a couple of injuries (including a badly hurt Gridash Loveblood, settling our grudge against him) tilted the odds in the Grudgebearer's favor and allowed blitzer Nalin Ironthew to break away while his teammates tied up the Orks and score the tying touchdown.
A KO of blitzer Huhai Skullhack, which he failed to recover from, in the final turn of regulation play set the Black Sox further back in terms of orcpower and the Dwarves were able to hold the Orks up long enough for runner Mogan Quicksilver to dash in for the winning touchdown in overtime.
