#1 Avariel – Smashed Hip (-MA)
When I entered this match, my primary concern was to get out alive and not be beaten *too* much. The Jungs are a strong team with a good coach (in the two previous games they had not given up a single touchdown). Little did I know this was going to turn into a really dramatic finish.

I was lucky at the beginning, when the Jungs rolled two double skulls on their first turn while the ball was still in the open. Ranarion slipped through the dwarves' lines, picked it up and passed it back to a thrower, who secured it. Now the Champions pressed forward. After the long pass their ballcarrier was knocked down, but Ranarion was able to get into possession again and score the early lead.

The dwarves got the equalizer in turn 8, after reducing the Champions to 6 players. (Ironically, Avariel's SI was self-inflicted. Bloody 1's.)

In the second half, the elves did what they could do best: They dashed forward to receive the ball. The Jungs surrounded Lamion with no less than three men, but his Nerves Of Steel allowed him to catch Altaron's pass nonetheless. He then dodged away with ease and scored the 2-1.

Yay! This was going far better than I had hoped...

The dwarves tied it again - I had way too few men on the pitch to actually stop them -, but I had still time left to score again. So the Champions dashed forward again, but this time they were pressed very hard. Thalion blitzed and knocked one of them down, but then I failed an unmodified dodge. The Jungs responded by knocking Altaron down. Eldareth managed to get the ball out of two tacklezones and attempted a pass to Thalion. 3+ catch, 2+ dodge, and victory would be mine...

And then what happens? A Dwarf Lineman intercepts the ball! Yikes! Now the tide turned against me, since my players were on the wrong end of the pitch (and most of them were lying on the ground, to boot). On turn 8, the final resistance (in person of Eldareth) was knocked down, and runner Morrigan Zinnhand handed the ball to blitzer Daghdha Mithrilzeh...

...who dropped it.

And that was it, the Champions made their way to a lucky 2-2 tie against their most feared opponent in this tourney, breaking the Glänzende Jungs' winning streak. However, they still haven't managed to win a match themselves - they're going to try it again in Game 4 against the Human team, Angry Aggressors...
