NWL Season iiiiii Rnd 6 Action

With four teams locked in a dead heat for the top Vet Division spots (including the Hams and AAA) this was going to be a key battle to decide the division.

Things started really inauspicously for the Armada when the very first orc block resulted in a kill. Desperate to keep warm bodies the apoth was dispatched and the rest of the game was played with frayed nerves, as the Armada coaching staff grimaced and whinced every time an elf hit the ground.

With some typical elfball moves the Armada scored quickly on offense and looked to their high pressure defense to secure the win. Heavy pressure on the ball and some nimble ball handling in orc tackle zones and suddenly the Armada is up 3-0 and looking to breeze to a blow out victory.

Then the rains came. Not unlike the Hams porcine mascot, the orcs seemed to revel in the mud. Meanwhile the effete elves seemed more concerned about soiling their pristine uniforms than playing BB.

With some adroit ball handling the orcs looked downright elfy in the second half. Handing off, passing, catching, dodging through tackle zones. Luckily for the elves, their own ineffective ball handling never completely exposed the ball and by time the Hams smashed the ball from Pvt Benjamin s hands and converted a defensive score to close to within 1 TD, too much time had passed.

Content with the 3-2 win, the elves surrounded the ball with elven bodies in the waning minutes of the game, failing a half hearted scoring attempt at the end.

More importantly, the elves were happy to end the game unscathed. Relying heavily on their dodginess to deny the Hams hits (and luckily when they did get hits the orcs seemed content to push elves around).

Good luck against the Stench, Proph! Still a good chance it ll be you and me ascending to Premiere!

The Hams Losing Streak is cut short.

In an intense game vs Bampf Ariel Assault Armada, the St Louis Hams 4 game winning streak came to a grinding halt at the prancing elven feet.

The game looked to be off to a good start for the Hams when a first turn RIPped an elf, but the ever vigilant apoth stepped in and did his thing. After that, the Orcs from St Louis couldnt get much more than a push for the next few turns.

The elves scored in their 2nd turn and quickly pushed the score up to 3-0 due to good field placement on some skillful deep kicks and quick footed followups by the nimble elves.

The second half started with rain and the Hams getting the kickoff. Apparently the change in weather helped the orcs regain some sense of purpose. Slowly but surely the Hams managed to score their first TD of the game, due to some not so good backfield positioning by the AAA (who were over represented in the Hams backfield) and a key trip. The pasing team of Marc Bludger and rookie #12 Gus Garrote managed to get the ball up to #76Orlando Pain who manuvered to the end zone for a score.

The next kickoff to the AAA resulted in the Elves being unable to pick up the ball and the Hams were able to move in and surround the them. The AAA made a noble effort and even managed to get the ball past the half line, but a cautious play on Bampfs part enabled the orcs to blitz in, and knock the ball away. While the ball landed in the middle of several orc and elf players, team Offensive Captain, Marc Bludger managed to pull out some Elf-Ball tricks from his bag, dodge through the pile, snatch up the ball, dodge out of the pile then toss a pass downfield (still in the rain!) to waiting fleet footed #81 Gory Holt, who managed to to hustle down the field, go for it, and score, making the score 3-2.

With only a few turns left in the game, the Hams managed to stop the AAA from scoring again, and even managed to take out a backfield elf with a flying gobbo, Oh No, in a desperation play. Neither team could do anything with the ball at that point and the game ended in a win for the elves and a loss for the Hams.

With season 6 wraping up in the NWL, these last 2 rounds see the top 4 teams (3 of which were in a dead heat) all facing off against each other. The Hams need a victory vs Jkarr's undead Foul Stench! and then need for Bampf to either beat or Tie Da_Fathas Permed Plutrocracy. If all that happens, the St Louis Hams are back on their way to premiere. Go Hams! (though it is to be noted that it would have been easier if we had just won this game tonight!)

Good game, as always, Bampf, good luck vs the Perms!
