9 Rats took the field against 11 orcs and knew that they needed a lot of good fortunate. However, on the opening kickoff, the rat ogre crowd surfed a blitzer for a stun to slightly even the odds. Then good ball handling in the pouring rain moved the ball upfield. Even with the orcs doing some amazing 1d blocks - for a KO and a RIP and then making a 6+, 5+, 3+ dodge sequence to get a blitz on the ball, the rats somehow squeaked into the endzone for the 1-0 lead. The orcs then had the ball bounce right to the goblin to start the next drive...we feared a TTM attempt, but the orcs did not trust their troll and instead tried to run with the goblin - a good choice as we had only 2 players with block and no tackle. However, a bit of dodging and we got a 3d block on the goblin - needed RR, but it knocked down the goblin and the ball was loose. After a few failed attempts at pick up, Nate Jaqua again got the ball and raced downfield for the 2-0 lead. The orcs used their apoth on a badly hurt to keep their numbers up and the rats were down to 7 to start the second half.
The orcs got the ref to start the second half and caged up and pushed the ball downfield. However, instead of pushing for the quick score - they stalled a bit, got in a foul for a SI on a storm vermin...but only left themselves 2 turns. On the final kickoff, 3 of the 6 rats were stunned by the crowd. However, with the Orcs only having 2 turns left, only their 1 blitzer was in range and a blitz knocked him down and the thrower ran into our own endzone - just outside the range of any of the orcs...so we were able to preserve the 2-1 victory.
