#8 Hunger – Dead (RIP) #16 Dead Bob – Broken Ribs (MNG) #16 Dead Bob – Smashed Knee (NI)
“My 2nd game of season four, 2nd against vampires (although this was really a thrall team), and 2nd game with horrible luck. Started off with 2 handicaps, and got two poor results - palmed coin and cutting his rerolls from 7 to 3. Well, one poor and one average, I guess.
First half of the match, I could do no right, and Walks dice could do no wrong. I took the ball, and got double skulls on my first couple of blocks. He had a half-Larson by turn 3 with Ladislav, the hard way (Int & Cas on my wolf), but my one piece of good fortune was to knock that player out.
Bad dice on both our parts burned most of the rest of the 1st half, but Walks was able to shake loose and score on the last turn of the half (the only action he took on that turn, killing my ghoul). Bad dice also kept Ladislav in the KO box the rest of the game to keep him from the Larson, and the one vampire seemed to enjoy keeping him company there.
Second half saw not much better luck, he took the ball, swept up one sideline, and then reversed a bit into the middle of the field as I cut him off. I managed to deck the ball carrier, but the ball was fielded by a line-zombie who had already moved. Walks was able to smack him, again the ball bounced to an inconvenient spot. I was able to snatch it up with Famine, but he tripped and fell trying to dodge out away. Unable to clear the ball, I couldn't prevent Walks from getting to it and running it in for the clinching score. I was able to smash my way right up the middle of the field to drive for a consolation touchdown, but even getting that required the sure hands of Famine on two occasions to fight off strip ball attempts, and a skull on the final gasp to try and stop him.
Nice coaching by Walks, and I certainly don't mind losing to a superior team, but getting slammed by the dice on top of that hurts. :) ”
“Not such a great match - losing my passer hurts, and Dog lost a ghoul and a zombie, but at least the zombie was new.
Ladislav had the hard half by turn 2 -to miss the rest of the match was very aggravating. And though Dog was having bad luck to start, my dice were not blessed - other than the 5 and 6 Lad rolled to get his INT. By turn 4 I was out of rerolls and hurting for them. Trying to get Gregori open to score, I made a dumb 1d blitz - not too dumb, as only a skull could hurt me, but that's what I got. It caused me to score turn 8 rather than turn 7, and that cost me 1 more chance to get Lad back in the game.
2nd half was more balanced, and I had started to panic as I had 8 men on pitch now to his 11. A well-used fireball opened up the men I needed to blitz my way to the ball and a score. Even then, I couldn't prevent his TD after.
The best news is my FF went up. Other than that, not so great, though a win this season is nice. I lost a good man, Dog lost 2, and we BH'd and KO'd each other's bounties!”
