“Coup de Grace, living up to their name...saw a chance to finish off a weakened opponent in the Gnadsmashers, who were reeling from a terrible meeting with Interesting Times. The ladies loaded up onto the bus and paid The Gnadsmashers a visit.
Grimfang hired a few norse off the street before the match, to ensure that, at least at the beginning, he'd have a full 11 norse on the field for the match. He had three players stay in the locker room moaning over very recent injuries.
The norse choose to recieve the kickoff, and began the game getting a casualty on one of my blitzers, Eumache. Even though she was only badly hurt, our apothecary ran out onto the field and gave her the smelling salts, as she is an intregal part of the team's plans.
(Side note: Eumache was an Amazon in the Attic War, who once disarmed and out of arrows, fought with a stone. Her name means, "Good Fighter.")
We returned the love by knocking his key blitzer down and fouling her to DEATH. Fortunately for them, their apoth was able to do good work and heal her. This was a blow to our morale, as we wanted to remove him from the pitch, or at the very least stun, and we failed at even that.
Despite this, the heavily weakened Gnadsmashers weren't really much of a challenge for a full strength Coup de Grace. There was an interesting time when the same blitzer we fouled to death was able to dodge around, pick up a ball in 3 tackle zones, fail to get knocked over on two dice with a reroll, and dodge around some more to score a TD...i KNEW i needed to remove him from the game.
(sidenote #2: i did eventually remove him from the game with a foul on turn 6 of the second half, although loud boos were given from the peanut gallery for doing it)
By the end of the day, both of the freebooters were carried out on stretchers, and Coup de Grace stole the victory 3-1, and made an enemy for life. Expect these Gnadsmashers to rise again and try to bring down both Interesting Times and Coup de Grace in coming weeks of this A.N.A.R.C.H.I.S.T. gauntlet.
(sidenote #3: does anyone else notice the irony that a team called Gnad Smashers had a problem with an all girl team? :) ”
