What a game! Was tense the whole way through with both sides having their share of twists and turns. The first half started with the Wolverines on offence. As usual they weren't exactly too proficient at it and when the dark elves star blitzer, William of Orange started swinging the numbers battle it looked bad for the Wolverines. In the end they decided to go for keeping the ball safe rather than go for a risky touchdown and more than likely give the elves a defensive score.
Second half it was the elves turn to attempt to score. Some tough defence from the Wolverines got the ball loose. But when they'd cleared the area their rookie wight, Raine Deathmace fumbled the pick up. A nice scatter left the ball within easy reach of the elves and they inevitably managed the pass to score.
With just two turns and no re-rolls things looked grim for the Wolverines. Injury time looked like it might give them a better chance but two turns with fumbled pick ups made it look like it was fated not to be the Wolverines day. This all changed on the last turn where they chain pushed a wight free and into touchdown range, picked up, managed a hand off, short pass and sprint (including a dodge) to score in the last moments of normal time.
So, we entered OT. Neither side having any re-rolls and both coaches exhausted from yelling at their teams through the whole of regular time. The elves won the toss and the Wolverines expected they'd be in trouble against the agile elves. A strong drive down the right was enveloped by the Wolverines and Varik finally started making his claws count. A failed block at the start of one turn left the elves with the opportunity to win it though. Only a failed gfi saved the Wolverines. Angered by their ineptitude the Wolverines became far more bloodthirsty clearing many elves from the pitch. Once they finally recovered the ball it was fairly simple to run in the touchdown on the last turn of the game against the few remaining elves.
This was an excellent game against a great coach. Was so much fun and I look forward to many more tight matches. All the best with the recovery mate!”
