“Well my first match ever in the SWL went about as I expected it too. Playing up 44 TS was always going to be difficult, especially against the speedy Skaven. Things started ok, but the wily Rats managed to sneak through for a TD on T8.
Down 1-0 at half-time, I thought I was still a chance to win it early in the second half. I had got the Skaven down to only 7 players on the field, including 2 Gutter Runners in the KO box. Unfortunately my Ghoul, "Blood Bowl", failed a 3+ Dodge and then the subsequent reroll to gift the Skaven with a second TD and pretty much the match.
It got worse as 3 of the 4 Skaven in the KO box recovered and on the next kick-off a Blitz result came up. With their speed they were able to push a Wight out of the way and get 3-4 players around the fall of the ball. 2 of my players had a chance to catch the scattering ball but failed. At least the Skaven were denied a third TD, with one of the Gutter Runners falling over twice while "going for it".
On the positive side, I managed to get through the match pretty much unscathed and with some decent winnings. Both a Mummy and a Wight got a CAS (along with a Zombie) and my other Wight got the MVP. No skills just yet but things are set up nicely for future games.
My only casualty was the death of "Milo", one of my Skeletons, who was hit by a rock thrown by one of the Skaven fans. While I can't be completely sure, I suspect that this was a revenge attack for the death of Donald Koosar, a Skaven Lineman who died earlier in the game. Donald kindly accepted coach Olaf's offer to join his team and lined up straight away against his former teammates.
All in all it was a good game played in good spirits. While a win or a draw would have been nice, I am happy with how the first match went.
Twahnlow Votes:
3 votes: Skritter the Brave - This guy was a constant thorn in my side. His ability to cover so much of the field, combined with a ST 3 and AG 4 made him a big threat.
2 votes: Normin the Stormin - Scored the second TD and was a big annoyance during the whole match.
1 vote: Paskit the Fearless - Like the other 2 Gutter Runners that received votes, his speed was a big problem for the Undead horde. Also scored the first TD.
