“NCBB - Season 2:
One look at the score may make it seem that this game was a boring grind it out affair - but it was anything but! An incredible back and forth game that resulted in the narrowest of victories for Boise State - but at a great cost as a 2 skill pixie was killed and two other players perm. injuried...and this was after the apothecary saved another player who would have died.
In the first half, Boise State received the ball...however, the ogres of Michigan State are very powerful and good at guarding one another...and the stalwart trees of Boise State were of little use against such strong foes. As such, after a foul would have niggled an ogre (but was prevented by the apothecary), Boise State did a sweep right play...it failed when a pair of goblins managed to reach the pixie and killed him (saved by apothecary). However, the goblins had the ball and it proved hard to take it from them. Bush Hammer charged forward, but the nasty goblin was a good dodger and Bush Hammer had to fall down himself to take down the goblin...but only knocked prone, the goblin was back up and Michigan State took the ball upfield. At this point, with the injuries adding up and with 2 trees out of action (take root), it was down to a single treeman and just a handful of fairies. However a 1d block came up big...although the ball bounced back to a goblin, a bonehead slowed down Michigan State. Then with time running out, the goblin made a break for it. Desperate, a fairy eluded the diving tackle to assist and than a pixie dodged free of an ogre to get a bothdown on the 1d block to knock the ball loose...but more importantly, with only 1 turn left, no goblins were in scoring position, when the TTM failed, it was over - and the half ended 1-1.
While, apothecary had prevented any perm injuries in the first half...it did not take long for them to start adding up - as Michigan State inflicted niggle, rip, -ma, in rapid fashion to further deplete the Boise State side. With a handoff to an ogre, Michigan State was using the Ogre to run a sweep...and the fragile fairies were blasted out of the way...finally 2 spaces from the endzone, 3 dodges and a 2d blitz for a POW from a goblin and the ogre was 1 space from the endzone with no one marking him. However, confused he simply stayed there (failed bone head, out of RRs). Bush Hammer had pursued the ogre and now blitzed him - shoving him into the crowd and the ball was free. A sure handed pixied failed the pickup and there was a scramble for the ball...again the sure handed pixied failed the pickup (although this time it was 4+), however, finally the bouncing ball was caught by Juilian Hawk...one of only 4 fairies left on the field...a few dodges later and he was off to the races - trying to go the length of the field...an ogre broke in pursuit...but it was a long run...he trips!! Free, Julian races downfield....the goblins are too far away...he scored as time expires.
A very close and exciting game - certainly an interesting start to the season!”
