Handicaps for VOR: Palmed Coin, Virus, Bribe the Ref, Knuckledusters and Duh, Where Am I?
Virus kept Swashbuckle from playing, and Duh was put on Tangential.
First half: VOR receive. Words take the ball and advance, putting a lot of effort into getting the Count (with Knuckledusters) off the field. Too much effort, as would be seen when VORs Thomas Von Gerald, a vampire with blodge, pro and leap, leapt behind Words players and managed a 1d on the ballkeeper, knocking him down, and then picking up the ball. Words first attempt to bring him down failed, he ran towards the endzone but was caught and knocked down, the ball secured. Words advanced more cautiously after this, and scored in turn 8. The fould the Count to BH/non-regen on the way. 1-0 after first half.
Second half: VOR caged and advanced towards the endzone, Thomas Von Gerald holding the ball. Some poor defending from Words and some luck from VOR got them a score in turn 5. Words have four turns to bring the game home.
Words set up, planning a multiblock against one side, but the kickoffresult is Blitz! and the ball landing on the side of the field left virtually undefended! VOR place players to catch the ball, but luckily fails, and Words manage to get the ball. Another 1d-blitz knock the ball free again, and things deteriorate to a melee, where Words desperately try to keep the vamps at bay. Some good and bad luck from both sides, but Words finally manage to secure the ball and keep 1-1 in halftime.
OT, Words receive. 4 rerolls for Words vs 1 for VOR. VOR start with 8 players. VOR manage another 1d blitz on the ballkeeper with Thomas, but fail to bring him down, and after that Words fouled and blocked their way forward, knocking the vampires and thralls out. Score in the last turn, after failing to completely clear the pitch, one thrall left. Final score: 2-1 for Words!
Oh my! What a game! I have to admit, I thought this game was going to be a cakewalk, especially after I got rid of the Count. But that leaping vampire, coupled with the blitz and good 1d-blocks, made this game a very hard and exciting one, keeping me on my toes. I don't think I played that well initially, being overconfident, but even after I shaped up EnglishJake gave me a run for my money. In the end the vampires failed to close the deal, and where whittled away by the claws and mblows of Words, but not until they had given a great account for themselves.
Thanks for the game EnglishJake! I won't forget it (or underestimate leaping vampires) in a hurry. See you around for a rematch down the line :)”
