The Gauls came into this game with some trepidation (only some mind, 'cause they are indomitable after all). Averaging only 1 casualty a game in their careers so far, the Gauls looked outclassed in the fisticuff department while the dead guys had enough tackle and agility to combat our own skills and still do ball handling of their own.
However the Gaulish god(dess?) Transvetiterix decreed otherwise and initiated a little role reversal today. The Gauls hit harder than the Khemri but couldn't make their dodges while the Khemri did.
The Retribution recieved and started well with a couple of KO's on the LOS and marched upfield. We got 3 blizes on the ball carrier in the half and freed up the ball each time. The Khemri ignored the rain though and scooped it right back up again. Two mummies had possession at different times picking up bouncing balls despite the rain and the presence of at least 1 tacklezone each time. Mephisop scored at the end of the first half from behind a solid screen, the Gauls getting low on numbers not really in a position to pressure them.
The Gods smiled (well for Transvestiterix if was more of a leer....ugh) and we got a quick snap from the kickoff on turn 8. Fulliautomatix and Asterix combined to push aside one of the very deep placed skellies to clear a path for Polysyllabix who caught the pass from Cacafonix to score. One all at half time.
Second half we failed a block on the LOS and didn't cover up the ball well enough which gave the Khemri a chance to exert pressure on the ball. After an extended melee we were finally able to break free and Asterix looked to certain to score. More Khemri agility (sic) saw Ikewun jar the ball loose which he promptly gathered up, held off a return blitz, dodged away from his markers and look set to score for the win.
Fortunately for the Gauls one of the screening mummies failed a block giving us a chance to put enough players around Ikewun and stun him on the blitz. With only six on the field, the Khemri didn't have the numbers to stop the winning score by Beefix.

3 Points Ikewun. Could hold a place in an elf team! He showed marvelous dexterity dodging at will, made the all important blitz on Asterix from a position I thought was pretty safe, secured the ball and got out of a tight spot on the sideline to bring The Retribution within an ace of winning. 2 Points Mephisop. Freakish pickup of a bouncing ball under all sorts of pressure, and once he had it, wasn't letting go till he scored. 1 Point Nice stats for a skellie. Recieved the ball and look set to carry it all the way, we were fortunate to knock him over.
A lucky win for the Gauls and happy to get out of the game with no permanent injuries. ”
