“The first match of the season started very sportive and friendly like, with over 56.000 cheering fans. After they kicked off the Dwarfs from Azgal managed to steal the ball and let Baldwin Grizdal score quite easily. The match however was overshadowed by the death of Erik, the Norse thrower who got killed when going for it in his attempt to stop Gemri Baraz, the dwarf runner who was in position to score the 2-0. This resulted in some nervous and unfocused play, but the Norse regained their concentration and tried to honour Erik by giving 110%. Although the dwarfs formed a tight defence, this offensive play resulted in 2-1 at the end.
After the match:
Kargan Skalfson, coach of the Azgal Admirals: ‘Everything went as planned, although the death of Erik did cause some loss of concentration. The Norse are always a nice crowd to play against and Erik was a close friend to some of our players. That aside the dwarfs did their textbook play of constantly pushing the opponent backwards while giving the runners the opportunity to score.’
Jurgen Goranson, coach of the Black Fire Pass Raiders: ‘Erik will be missed by the whole team, And I would like to say this: don’t underestimate the dwarfs they are a feisty bunch but great sports to play, deserved to win the match and thx for that moment off silence when Erik died.’
Rori Varn, Dwarf Most Valuable Player: ‘This was my first official match for the Admirals and I am the Most Valuable Player already? Wooaah, I think I like this league already.’
Thrall, Norse Most Valuable Player: ‘I would like to dedicate the TD for Erik. You will be missed by all buddy! ”
