Ouch. The powerful wood elf team dug into their pockets and pulled out enough cash to convince Deeproot Strongbranch to join them. This game them a ST 7 treemen and a MV 3 ST 6 treemen on the LOS. Needless to say, every 2d block against a tree that we did managed were only pushes...and that quickly became fruitless as our rats were clubbed down one by one. However, the elf linemen also get into the act stepping on the rats right and left. We spent most of the game running and did not even do that very well :P
In the first half we received and badly hurt a wardancer and fouled another wardancer for a KO (he would return in the second half). This helped but any sense of good fortune quickly faded. Our apothecary was used on turn 1 to prevent a niggling injury to a key player. We only had 1 RR left (after a double skulls on our first block of the game used up 1 RR), but managed to score without needing it as Blinky tossed a perfect pass to Winky for the TD. The wood elves had the ball and were driving, but using our last RR we knocked the ball loose and then there was a scramble as they tried to get it back, but we held on for the 1-0 halftime lead.
Although we had the lead, things were bleak, Brian Mullan was dead and another double skulls badly hurt another of our players. The wood elves advanced with the ball, but we managed to get the 2d blitz and knocked the ball loose and picked it up...out of RRs, we failed the handoff to another GR that could have raced downfield for the certain 2-0 lead. It was alright however, as the wood elves were out of position...they got a blitz off on our ball carrier, but failed to put him down (due to lack of tackle). In scoring range, our storm vermin needed a push on a 2d block to all a walk into the endzone by Dobby. Instead it was another double skulls and it was back to the wood elves....the crowd was on their feet - could they take advantage? They had no RRs either. The wardancer did his join nailing Blinky - badly hurting him. Now, it was up to Sulzeer "Sol" Campbell to make the play of the game...a regular line elf with specialization in guard...could he rise to the challenge before him? Dodge...expected...a few cheers...a pickup in 2 tackle zones...disbelief from the fans...cheering increased three fold...another dodge...gfi..gfi...the stadium became deafening...arm cocked back for short pass...on target and CATCH! Roberts hauls it in and dances into the endzone! The stadium erupts into wild cheers...some called for a penalty for excessive celebration on the wood elves...
As the pitch was cleared, two turns remained for demoralized Houston team that saw a 2-0 lead disappear into a 1-1 tie and their leader carried off the field. However, in the wild merriment, the wood elf kicker lined up in the wrong place...brillant coaching gave Houston another RR and the kicked bounced out of bounds...It was Dobby's turn - racing up the sideline with a half cage - he moved into scoring range. Wanting multiple threats Winky dodged through...er..or not, snake eyes and KO for Winky. It was all up to Dobby now. The elves crashed down on Dobby, but tackle prevented a dodge and left the defense imperfect...2 2d blocks (used RR on one of them) cleared the way and Dobby jogged left and then raced downfield for the 2-1 victory.
Afterwards, the coach had this to say, "One of our toughest games to date. Our best respects to a very good Hotspur team...we are lucky just to survive this one. We have a lot of things to work on in practice now!"”
