“Following House of Ladies' (HoL) kick-off the Lightnings launched a quick flank attack, but managed to leave a weakness in the middle of their line. HoL opened up the breach and pushed through, splitting the Lightnings into two separate bunches of players. The Lightnings responded by streaming back to protect their embattled ball carrier, the rookie gutter runner Nourishing, and were soon able to break her out of the melee to score.

The Lightnings restarted play, and successfully absorbed HoL's initial charge. They stole possession, and looked like they were going to score a quick touchdown, but had reckoned without the quick reactions of Ms. Maureen. Seeing a pass being thrown, she lunged into its path and so distracted the target player that she fumbled the catch. Several more turns of confused brawling ensued, leaving the Lightnings with a 1-0 lead at half time.

HoL's next attack was looking strong, with a pass on its way to a receiver enclosed within a tight pocket, when misfortune struck - the catcher got blinded by the bright sunlight and fumbled the catch. The Lightnngs rushed to secure the ball, but were unable to make much impact on the tight HoL pocket. It bounced around between the warring players, but it was an HoL player that emerged in possession. HoL then slowly advanced the ball down the pitch, harried all the way by the Lightnings, who were able to force the ball to the ground on several occasions but were never able to secure possession. Eventually, HoL grounded the ball in the Lightnings' endzone.

The Lightnings offence proved its worth next, as a swift flank attack yielded a 2-turn touchdown, a second for Nourishing. The next kick saw HoL with very little time left to draw the match, and some handling errors meant that they didn't really come close. 2-1 to the Lightnings.”
