#11 Zog – Broken Ribs (MNG) #11 Zog – Smashed Collar Bone (-ST)
“A pretty good match in the end, and one I nearly walked out of in turn 4/5 after some awesome dice rolling in the first half.
The vampires lacked block, but it didn't really matter and it didn't take them long to exploit the norse armour 7. Juri Norberg was crippled early on by Doug "Nervous Guy" Murphy, with the Fanglers medic wisely staying on the side lines. Shortly afterwards Zog got squashed by Keith "Master of Dudes" Dudemeister, resulting in a strength decrease. Sadly that meant the retirement of Zog after the game, which of course he got the MVP in...
Despite a desperate 2d against blitz on the vampire ball carrier, Dr. Acula were able to recover and Dr. Mickhead ran in the opener.
In furious blizzard conditions, things didn't look good for the 9 norse, but they rolled back the playbook and advanced up the centre of the pitch. Jordi Issacsson killed a thrall, who was apothecaried successfully. Shortly afterwards Krell crippled another thrall, before a lucky pass by Tomi Ulrikksson saw Jordi equalise in turn 7.
In the second half, the norse were back up to 10 facing 11, but the vampires got a blitz. One of the fanglers was KOd as a result and all tackle zones were filled, especially by too irritating guard thralls. The norse went for the ball and started to push people back and a scrum ensued in the centre of the field. Coach Wilf was able to switch play to the right flank and thought he had it clear, until a 2+, 2+, 3+ GFI blitz (in the snow) allowed one of the vamps to throw the ball to a thrall in a tackle zone, who dodged clear and put the vamps 2-1 up. Hmmm.
With 3 turns to go, and the blizzard still around, the Fanglers set up with 11 at last. Merlin managed to badly hurt a thrall in the drive and the norse KOd a couple more to allow Ulf Werener to move up the pitch. He was marked by a thrall, but a failed dodge allowed him the chance to throw the ball to Boris The Cold who blitzed and went for it to secure an unlikely equaliser.
And so the game ended. I was 5 players down in 3 turns, and considering the dreaded concede, but I'm glad I didn't in the end. No skill rolls, apart from the retired Zog, but a bit in winnings allowed me to buy another catcher. Good game onesax, look forward to a rematch.”
