“On paper the game looked like a foregone conclusion. Rats v flings. The Fire biters had speed, agility and strength on their side.., on paper!
When the sides lined up however, it was a diffierent story. 3 treemen, including superstar Deeproot Strongbranch faced against the rat linemen and suddenly they were more interested in tasting what the fling chef was cooking on the sideline. One turn gone, one CAS for Deeproot (thankfully just a BH) and it all started to look bleak for the Biters.
After a few turns nibbling away at their opponents (and avoiding branches flying left, right and centre) Incandescence managed to wrestle the ball free and scuttle away for a TD.
The second half was a cagey affair, good defence from the Flings slowed the rats progress to such a crawl that the trees were catching them up. Desperate to break free, Incandescence overthrew a pass to Conflagration, and the subsequent crowd throw-in opened the field up completely.
With only a few turns left, Peterchen scooped up the ball and perched himself on his teammate Mahagonihammer, ready for a Chuck n run next turn. Mahagonihammer (who hadn't moved in the second half) was a bit too eager and threw his helpless colleague downfield, exposing him to the Blitzy reaches of Burn.
The danger should have been over there, but the youthful Pyre, eager to impress the new boss, tried an audacious pass to Conflagration which again missed the mark. (Perhaps Conflagration is cursed as it seems no-one is able to hit him with a pass.)
The naive effort was siezed upon by Franzl, who was able to find Peterchen in coverage with a good pass, showing the rats how it should be done. The equaliser would require Peterchen to dodge down the sideline at full speed but t was too much for the tired little fella and he tripped at the first hurdle.
Low-scoring game but interesting nevertheless. The coach will demand that the rats play better in the next round.”

In turn 14 Mahagonihammer threw a long bomb with Peterchen who unfortunatly couldn't move anymore after he landed perfectly so he was blitzed afterwards by Burn. The next two turns both teams struggled for the ball. In turn 15 Pyre failed a pass so the ball was lying freely in the midfield. And then there was a sudden silence in the stadium and on both teams benches. Franzl picked up the ball, made a long pass to Peterchen, who catched it stonecold while standing near Burn. Seven steps to go for Fire Biters' endzone. Unfortunatly Peterchens stonecoldness faded away and he tripped while trying to go past Burn. The game was over and lost for the Halflings. But they departed with their heads held high from the field and not without reason!”
