“A humbling game for Sotek's monks in their first premier experience, and a frustrating game for their coach.
It was off to a bad start with all but useless handicaps (virus against no niggles and bad press). It didn't take long after that to see what sort of game it was going to be, with the first block of the game from The Bill causing a casualty on Z''aghigo. The injury dice were on on fire this game - between the two sides there was 8 cas for the game but only a single knockout from the game's only foul.
The game was lost for the lizards on their second turn. It was terribly played, with the lizards just making a few random blocks against Patrician's excellent defense, before an important dodge failed and left the ball carrier Phuazoth-mokr exposed within frenzy range of the sideline. Sure enough, by next turn he was pushed out, the ball was retrieved and well protected, and I'd discovered that you can't apo a death from a crowd push.
After that, they never really recovered. They had a few dashing plays, but most were against the odds and all of them failed.
The closest they came was after Patrician's only mistake for the game, as late in the stalling Bittany Spears frenzied into a 1 dice block and got both down rerolled into a skull. This left the ball carrier open, and the lizards decided to take the risks and try to turn it into a touchdown. Everything went well at first, the ball carrier knocked down, the ball recovered and handed off to Mi-not, who went for a run. However, on his last dodge, he snake-eyes'd his way to the casualty box, and in the end the dark elves scored on their last turn anyway.
Congratulations to Patrician, who has developped a well balanced dark elf team and played very well - other than that one mistake he played a very tight and professional game.
Twanhlows:
3 The Bill - Constantly menaced my skinks, and got two casualties, one of them with the first block of the game.
2 Whoever tripped Mi-not over - I'll look up who it was some time when I'm not at work. It was the one chance I had of recovering, but it all turned quite sour on that dodge
1 Brittany Spears - If she hadn't caused the turnover and nearly let us back into the game she'd have scored higher. On the whole it was a great effort from her in only her second game, the highlight being killing Phuazoth-mokr. Expecting great things to come.”
“Thanks to Irgy for the kind words. This game would have been a lot closer, but nuffle gave Irgy a big kicking.
We set up in defence, and Irgy gave the ball to his Blodge Saurus after our kick went long. He pushed forward well and caged the ball. In response, we tried to block as much as we could, BH’ing Z''aghigo early on. However, we put The Rack in close, hoping to trap the ball carrier, allowing him to be hit and BH’d in response.
When a skink tripped up, it exposed Phuazoth-mokr to a crowd push. Poor Phuazoth was torn apart by the crowd. Honestly, we didn’t intend or want that result…we wanted him healthy to fight other teams in the next rounds! The ball spilled well for Thousand Cuts, who moved up-field, protected at all times by his team-mates. We were golden, right up to a poor play on my part. I blocked with Brittany when I shouldn’t have, and got a bad 1 die result….allowing Thousand Cuts to get blitzed (Damn Saurus’ with tackle!). Irgy would have sped away with the ball too, if Mi-not hadn’t knocked himself out of the game. We rallied, managing to dodge a desperate last defence and get over the line. 1-0 first half. All in all, the first half was quite bloody, and a bit more luck for Irgy would have made a huge difference.
We set up confidently for the second half, and some decent blocking saw more Lizards off the field. However, they hit back, MNG’ing Dr Phil. He will spend the next week with the Spears family, trying to get Brittany back on track. However, we moved ahead cautiously, and apart from some minor scares we scored. 2-0.
Irgy received and tried to get to the touchline but a run of bad luck didn’t help him. An apothed RIP rubbed salt in the wound, and prevented any chance of a consolation score. 2-0 the final result.
Bad luck Irgy, you played really well in the face of some poor die rolls. All the best in Premier, I’m sure you’ll bounce back fine.
