“A disappointing match for both the Lightnings and their coach, as crucial unforced errors left them rueing missed opportunities.
The first half saw the Lightnings on the defensive. Big Dogs retrieved the ball without incident and formed a cage around it, which the Lightnings were able to seriously threaten. However, a foolish block-and-pushback by Limburger left Big Dogs' Minotaur with an easy block that allowed the rest of the Dogs to clear away the Lightnings. The Dogs made steady progress, and while the ball was constantly under threat, and occaisonally even in the possession of the Lightnings, the Skaven team couldn't get it safe before a hulking Chaos Warrior solved the problem. Eventually, late in the half, the Dogs were able to get properly set up and the Lightnings defence threw in the towel, changing the focus from retriving the ball to survival. The dogs touched the ball down just before the end of the half, giving Sardines just sufficient time for her blazing 'party trick' score, sprinting from the Line of Scrimmage to the Dogs' endzone before the Dogs could even react.
At this point, the Lightnings were looking strong. Their defense had buckled under pressure, but Sardines had evened the score, and they would be start in possession for the next half. Unfortunately, they didn't make best use of that possession, as they had diffuculty clearing away the Dogs' front line, and so were unable to produce a safe pocket in which to hide a Gutter Runner. The Dogs marked the threatening Gutter Runners, and so Dangerous Beans, in possession and lurking deep, risked a dangerous Long Pass - had he pushed himself a little further the pass would have been significantly easier. Still, with his accuracy and general skill at passing, the pass could be expected to hit the mark and the Lightnings' coach was left sputtering in disgust as it fell off target. From there, the half played out much like the first, with the Dogs fighting hard and keeping the ball, while the Lightnigs harried them. The Dogs scored with a few seconds left on the clock, and so the stage was once again set for Sardines to do her thing. Which she did with alomb.
2-2 was thus the result, but the Lightnings were left wondering what might have been had their usually unstoppable offense gone to plan, and counting themselves lucky that Sardines' 'party trick' was so hard to defend against.”
