“[Bob]
What a game, what a game. These darkies were outclassed and outmatched from the very beginning, but somehow they still managed to hang on until the very last. Isn't that right Jimbo?
[Jimbo]
That's absolutely right Bob. And I'd like to say that these undead teams have some rough players this early in the season - d'you remember the first time you saw a mummy on the pitch Bob?
[Bob]
I sure do, Jimbo, August 23rd 1967. Almost had an accident right there in my uniform, I'll never forget it. No one ever forgets their first mummy, Jimbo, and that's a fact. But let's talk about the plays here. These undead had some spectacular offensive coordinators - I haven't seen cages like that since the Dwarftroggers in Fumbbl Cup XCILLIIIV.
[Jimbo]
You hit the nail on the head there Bob, the only thing that seperates undead from khemri is their running game, but we still see a lot of undead teams out there who really got no game. [chuckles]
[Bob]
Ho ho <... wigger> That's a knee slapper Jimbo! And you know these darkies were outmaneuvered for the entire first half. The Aristocrats really just took their sweet time, waltzed into the end zone, and more or less called it game, 2-1.
[Jimbo]
But that's not what happened, Bob, we saw some really surprising plays and mistakes in the second half.
[Bob]
That's exactly right, Jimbo, first there was that gaping hole on the left flank of the undead defense. Rumor has it that Vicious coached elves in the past, and it really showed here as he overcommitted his zombies.
[Jimbo]
And that's not all Bob, by leaving a ghoul out of the defensive lineup he really limited his mobility so that even after he found a weak point in the line and popped the ball out of the runner's hands, he couldn't capitalize.
[Bob]
We saw some pretty enthusiastic crowd participation today, Jimbo. Both of these teams are in the public spotlight and have quite a following. When the ball popped out of the field and into the crowd, they really hurled it back with a little extra oomph today.
[Jimbo]
That's right Bob, and this really turned out to be pivotal in today's tie. Without that kind of crowd it could have been a whole different ballgame.
[Bob]
And once the crowd threw the ball halfway across the field, these darkies really capitalized on the low speed of the team as a whole. It was a close one, but that score really put them back into the game.
[Jimbo]
And that's not to mention that getting the ball to the other side of the field in one turn bought them precious time!
[Bob]
That's right Jimbo, let's take a look at how these darkies managed to turn what seemed like certain defeat into a tie. There was some great defense in the last few turns there - in fact it looked like the darkies used one of the Arisocrats own defensive lineups against them!
[Jimbo]
That's exactly what happened Bob, and it was just as effective as when the Aristocrats used it. By funneling them along one side of the field, the darkies forced them to use an extra turn setting up the scorer.
[Bob]
And when he was in range, he was only barely in range. An undead team really shines in the grind, but has a hard time with the 3 turn score - just not enough players who can really run the ball.
[Jimbo]
They sure do Bob, they sure do.
[Bob]
But you know what I found interesting, the whole game the Aristocrats shut down and outmaneuvered the darkies, and then on the last turn they left them wide open, almost unmolested.
[Jimbo]
That's right Bob and it really cost them the game. With some smart blocking, the darkies were able to push the ballcarrier back out of scoring range.
[Bob]
But you know Jimbo, it was really just an off day for these mummies. The whole game we saw them knock down darkie after darkie, but they really didn't do much of any damage.
[Jimbo]
That's exactly right Bob, I bet there were a lot of angry fans out there today who were expecting a bloodbath here. But on that last turn we just saw some very poor performance from the mummies. Should have been an easy knockdown with enough momentum to push the ballcarrier back into scoring range, but turned into a straight brawl.
[Bob]
And here's where we see the moodiness of mummies - you know Jimbo, sometimes they just don't feel like smashing.
[Jimbo]
Or maybe he was just having a bad day, we did see a skeleton carried off in a stretcher so someone got bashed.
[Bob]
Whatever the case Jimbo what we saw today was a loss turned into a surprise tie. I don't know who was more shocked, the coaches or the crowd.
[Jimbo]
That's right Bob, a mob of fans tore down the ticket booth, and both teams lost a lot of their earnings in the riot.
[Bob]
Nothing ends a good game like a good post-game riot, Jimbo.
[Jimbo]
That's exactly right, Bob.
