“WIL Dragon Conference VIII - Round 5
Well, hiring the useless Zara did me no real good... Goo did a nice job of taking my team apart first half... again the ref was every lenient on the fouls raining down on me... and weak when the call was argued.
Zara managed 1 cas, but mainly got pushbacks. All she did was look threatening without actually doing anything much.
Goo had a lukcy 1st half but delayed, 1-0, looking for the draw, as that's all he needed to keep me and the rest of the chasing pack at bay in our conference.
2nd half I started to fight back. In the end I decided to score and go for the win, but some jammy block dice in Goos favour left me without a chance to score. I could have just played safe, but I think the risk was worth it.
Goo managed to kill off Cheeky (think with a foul), raised her, then I killed her again! :) ... The linewoman Cheeky now on her 4th (or 5th!) incarnation... not a lucky number... but not as unlucky as Singer V :-p
With only 10k winnings I have little to replace the missing players... and with a tough next game again I think Zara in hindsight was a waste of 70k... Oh well...

This (on form - there are still two very tough rounds left) looked to be the Dragon Conference decider. A win for DFTS and it was all but over, a tie gave us a good advantage, and a loss gave Wotfud and his ladies an extra point with the head-to-head result.
The game was shaped by the previous round. Ludo's Rats had left me thin on the ground and Countless, but Tesis's hard-hitting Orcs and Nobbla had a day off against the ladies, leaving them 15 strong with Zara. With a horrible statistical chance at this TS (33 odd on the factor table), DFTS knew that their best hope was a draw, or a loss with so many CAS, the girls were disabled for the rest of the campaign.
The Necroooooooo began with the football, tucked up, and began to smack hard. By T6, we had a KO'd Zara, a BH Blitzer, 2 SI and a RIP on Cheeky IV. Despite a n00b error on my part, we held until T8 due in the main to Wotfud's terrible dice. 2 Zombies saw red, and it was 12 to line up on the T8 smackathon. Cheeky took front row centre, and was hunting for her new Regen switch when Zara gave her an almighty whack, and the girlie Zombie was dead once again! As the lads stood around laughing, new Ratty Zombie from our last game puspelsok took a BH no regen foul.
Things didn't look great. With 10 to face 11 girls, the guys knew a tie was the objective, and set about a) staying alive, b)leaving the eye on the 'Zons, and c) trying to stretch the drive to 5+ turns. Wotfud knew the score too, and it took a last ditch shot from Vagary II to stretch the drive to 6 turns, as he fearlessly dodged past Zara into 2 TZ for a muffed hand-off.
We had 2 turns to survive with 8 V 11. T1, the tz's came, and the Zons advanced, but left no safety! An AG4 punt would be a saver! Fail to knock the lady in the way over. A-ha! A safe corner! Pushes on the tackler in the way. We had to resort to tucking up with two front point guards, but the 3+ Dodge to make things 85% safe went wrong, and Wotfud had a shot. Mercifully, no POW / push-POW in 4 dice gave DFTS the vital tie, and the momentum going into the last two games.
Cracking contest, I is teh luck0r this evening.
And by the way…. Zara still sucks. If anyone can find me a replay where she actually does anything of use, I’ll climb down from my ‘A wizzie is a better use of your gold’ horse.”
