“SWL Season XXIII - Schiffer's Scissor Conference - Round 4
Receiving in the first half was definitely a good thing. We were lucky to take both tacklers off the pitch early in the half. After that, we made several errors a blind man could have found the holes in. With no tackle, and very little luck, the predators were unable to take control of the ball. Still they boxed us in well and truly, and we were forced to make a risky play (dodge, short pass with possibility of an intercept, and run in for the TD). It could have been worse odds, but we had the on-field advantage, so should never have let it come to anything of the sort.
Very fortunately, our luck didn't fail, and we were able to make the touchdown, which I think was the most critical turn of the match.
The predators still had a shot at a TTM, however, Ailuropoda melanoleuca saw fit to drop their goblin on his head, and it was not to be.
Half time score: 1-0
A deep kick in the second half allowed us to pressure the ball early with our side-steppers, and the predators never managed to build a proper cage. It certainly took some doing, but eventually, we were able to escape with the ball, and stalled it out (in hopes of limiting further damage) for a touchdown in turn 16.
An important win for the girls, putting us in the lead for our conference, but it cost a niggle on Leg Breaka ... was it worth it?
(rhetorical question .. of course it was!)
Full time score: 2-0
Twahnlow Votes 3 pts: #2 Ursus Maritimus
The only one of the black orcs with guard, this guy was a menace. He made things difficult for us all game.
2 pts: #7 Hyaena brunnea
Cas + good pressure in first half. I think he was also responsible for the underhanded foul on Leg Breaka after the apothecary had been used. Curses!
1 pt: #10 Panthera Tigris Altaica
Good pressure in turn 8 first half, right when it counts! It would be worth more than one vote, except that he then went and dropped the ball at a critical time (turn 2) in the second half.”
