The forces of Mordor were on the ropes in this game...again...again...and again. The battle was surely lost if not for the actions of the Count who single handedly keep the Corsairs in the game.
In the first half, the Corsairs were supposed to receive...but a blitz and deep kick and the wood elves were pressuring deep. Then came some great blocks - a 2d block from dauntless (non-tackle) takes down the count and the ball is free, but a snakes on the attempted pickup and the Corsairs have another chance...the Count again with the ball and a 2d block against is double POW and the ball is free again...but again, a snakes on a dodge prevents a pickup...but it does not last, for a third time, the ball is knocked free and the wood elves score. However, 2 turns remained and with a RR from the kickoff, the count takes it up the sidelines and with a 3+ dodge after blitz scores (with a gfi no RR) to tie it up at 1-1.
The second half kick went to the wood elves and they were in no hurry to score...however, a gang foul on the count failed to KO or CAS him and so they pushed it upfield. However, the Corsairs stunned the ballcarrier, but the pickup attempt on the ball failed and the crowd tossed it right to a nasty elf who was too far away to be stopped and darted to the far sideline. Around this time, the leader of the Corsairs (Captain Theresa) was killed on a failed gfi. The wood elves scored again...and again there were only 2 turns left. The count in a repeat performance took the ball in for the score - using a RR on final dodge and then the gfi (no RR) was successful and the game was tied 2-2.
At the start of overtime, it was the 11 Corsairs left (1 RIP, 1 SI(apoth fail), 2 BH) against all 12 wood elves (1 RIP-apoth worked). With a RR from the kickoff roll, the wood elves were up to 1 to match the Corsairs. However, the armor finally started to weaken. The Count killed one wood elf, and Shield started kicking with a passion - ignored by the ref, he killed, SI'ed, and BH'ed on three turns to reduce the elf numbers...taking the full 8 turns of OT, the Corsairs marched down the field and scored to take the ring of Fire to Mordor!”
