Not one of my better performances; but for Boogs getting himself into a lot of trouble due to Frenzy, it might have been different. As it was, a slice of fortune gave him a sniff of a tie, but it wasn't to be. The game was enjoyed by both coaches, though it proved to be a remarkably bloodless match, considering it was Norse v Norse.

The Tritons first-half offence got itself into a bit of a pickle, allowing a blitz on the ball-carrying #8 Asgaut Arnfinson. However, they were able the retrieve the situation, with #12 Skallagrim Halldorson surviving a blitz from an opposing Blitzer to run home his first career TD.

In the 2nd half, another turnover due to Frenzy left the ball wide open in Niflheimr's half. #7 Eyvind Bergson swooped in on the loose ball, survived a blitz, and also scored his first TD.

On the following drive, a Pitch Invasion left the Triton's left flank open, and Niflheimr obligingly pushed players through the gaps. However, Birkar Sterki commited a handling error, and due to a lack of cover, was blitzed by #14 Hjalti Thordison. Boogs' Norse rallied backwards, putting pressure on Hjalti, and it paid off, as the Norse lineman stumbled dodging away, dreams of a 2nd career TD filling his head, and clumsily booted the ball into the crowd instead of picking it up and scoring. I can only presume the Niflheimr fans always travel with a trebuchet, because the ball was launched high and long, landing deep in the Triton's half, in convenient range of the prone Niflheimr Blitzer, Styrkar Seierson. Hallfredar haps blitzed free of his marker, and Styrkar duly picked him out in the endzone to pull the score back to 2-1, giving Boogs a sniff of a chance in a game his Norse had looked well out of.

The next kick-off should have been a key moment - Niflheimr caught the Tritons flat footed with a Blitz!, Blitzer Styrkir taking advantage to down a lineman. I expected his team-mates to surge forward in one last, desperate bid to get under the airborne ball, and perhaps wrest a 2-2 tie from a game they had trailed 2-0 only a few turns previously. It never transpired; Styrkir dodged away again and resumed his starting position. The Tritons didn't need a second invitation, and surged forward. Styrkir, recognising his error, lunged at the man in possession, but fell over the outstretched boot of the wily #15 Audun Ornson. A hand-off and sprint for the line later, and Hjalti Thordison scored the TD he had earlier squandered before the final whistle blew.

I would urge Boogs to avoid the blitz-Frenzy-dodge method he uses with his Blitzers - it's very hard on rerolls, and cost him several turnovers too. Norse should almost never dodge - a one-dice block or blitz has less chance of failing, and can get them free of tackle zones just as effectively. He asked me during the game why I had no throwers or catchers - I responded by saying that that they weren't worth the cost (at least they aren't early on without other skills). I would say this applies to the Blitzers too (I don't have any of those yet, either) - without the benefits of Guard or Mighty Blow, blitzing is actually safer with the linemen. After all, they have Block too, and are just as fast. With Frenzy, you have to plan your assists for the 2nd block as well as the first.

Good luck, Boogs.
