“Fumbbl Tour 2. Round 1 vs Gary_Gygax's slightly underpowered orcs (though Iron Man for their +MA MB blitzer as their handicap will help them)

We start off receiving and manage to BH a black orc with our DP's foul- result! However they show their mettle when they do the exact same to our +MA guard blitzer on their turn! With their squad of 13 vs just 11 of ours we see this as a losing game and decide to leave the eye on them for a while (until their DP is prone next to ours near the end of the half that is! Only a KO however)

We push up one side with the gobbo on the ball fending off the enemy orcs for a few turns until they eventually blitz around and knock him down - with the eager fans grabbing the ball and throwing it back towards my endzone. Another blitzer dodges away but fails to pick it up- letting us charge down, stun him and grab the ball with our str4 blitzer. We then run it up with some ease, handing it off to a blitzer who can run into space ready to score on turn 8 where they can't reach him.

With a BoB joining our blitzer in the BH box and our gobbo failing to wake up on two attempts (all 3 of the enemy including their DP wake up) we have to set up just 8 to face their 11. This could be very tough! And they immediately BH another BoB and then use their DP to BH another!! Uh oh!

With just 6 orcs left on the pitch we are in a lot of trouble! We try our best to make it difficult for Gary_Gygax's orcs but outnumbered 2-1 when you have no elves is just nasty :) They easily wander upfield and decide to stall for an extra time win rather than go for the 2nd this half. They score on turn 8 without us ever throwing a block on their ball carrier.

*** OVERTIME ***
3/3 wake up from our KO box (2 rolls each) leaving us with 7 for extra time and we're kicking, 1 RR left for each team. Lets hope for a miracle. We take our beatings on the LOS and try and set up what blocks we can- having some success. Eventually when they try and take down our side-stepping goblin but can't do it despite 6 dice he's left standing next to the ball carrier. A series of blocks and a long blitz from our thrower knocks him down and drops the balls into McLovin's hands! He runs for the endzone!

However we're now out of rerolls and this isn't sudden death... McLovin is put in a tackle zone by a sprinting blitzer but he manages (just) to make the dodge away for the touchdown to go 2-1 up! We may get through now though our best bet is just letting one TD in in the next 4 turns and winning the coin toss. They score quickly despite our deep kick and our best attempts at covering their blitzer receivers. It's 2-2 and they will have just 2 more turns; here's hoping we make it! They push forward en masse while we are holding the ball at the back with our thrower. Before their final turn we do our best to make it as hard as possible- opting to throw the ball into space just past the half way plan. The orcs have a decent chance: one blitzer picking up and a pass to another within sprinting range of the endzone- but despite their RR they can't make the pass!

However they deservedly win the coin toss to advance to the next round. Well won Gary_Gygax!”
