“The Polar Bears came into this match expecting to handle the rookies, but boy were they wrong. Right out of the gate, the Stranglers showed they were ready for a fight. Kruetz was knocked off the pitch right away with a Serious Injury. This was followed up by a KO fairly quickly. Being outnumbered, 'Sweetness' ran the ball in for a quick score. Unfortunately, that was the only time the Bears would score on this day.
As the Strangler continued to pile up KO's on the Baers, the Bears finally decided to retaliate and left blood splattered all across the Stranglers side of the field. By the time it was over, two Stranglers lay DEAD, one Badly Hurt, and a fouth Seriously Injured.
The Bears learned a valueable lesson today, never underestimate your opponent.
#8 Dennis Minto – Dead (RIP) #11 Jimmy Power – Dead (RIP)
“A good (but painful) start to the season for the Saltire Stranglers. On paper they were completely outmatched and appear to be out of their depth amongst the other Division 2 opposition, but any doubters should now sit up and take notice of a team on the rise.
Their eagerness to make an impression shone through from the start, with team captain Archie MacDonachie inflicting an SI on his team's first block of the match. Seconds later, lineman Lewis James followed his captain's example by KO-ing an opposing blitzer. The response was swift and brutal, and before they could react, Strangler Jimmy Power was on his way to the morgue.
This would prove to be a sign of things to come.
Forced to kickoff first, they quickly found themselves a score down, but team spirit pulled them through, scoring 3 unanswered TDs to take the win in their debut match, overcoming a mammoth TR/TS (44/44) defecit to do so.”
