7 Ways dropped enough cash to secure a Bribe the Ref 2 handicap. Would it come back to haunt them?
The Smokers won the coin toss and elected to receive, and on the first turn, knocked both opposing chaos warriors out of the match. Great start thinks coach tz, nice first drive, easy TD, hopefully cause some cas before the half ends. Who would have thought that would be the high water mark of the first half? A turn 1 knockdown of They Never Quit! and subsequent foul (which was caught but ignored by the ref) sent the nasty beast to the meat wagon, badly hurt. 7 Ways couldn't fail anything, and were able to thwart our drive with dodging blitzes and a dash of derring-do. 0-0 at the half.
The second half saw 7 Ways grab the ball and advance as far as they could right off the bat, leaving the ball carrier exposed to a 2 gfi blitz. Despite being able to pick the ball up, only three smokers remained on the pitch, and were overcome. 0-1 after T12.
Feeling a bit down, the Smokers gave up a Blitz! on the ensuing kickoff, but were able to hold, and on the ensuing blocks, killed and SI'd two of the opposing beastmen. With the numbers evened, the Smokers felt they just might be able to score. A handoff to They Get 10 Minute Breaks Outside Every Hour, advance and gfi put us in position to tie the match, but 7 Ways was able to make 4 gfi's to get a 2d blitz on the carrier. 10 Minute was knocked down, and the ball landed on the sideline. Our beasts streaked over as close as they could come to the ball, and 10 Minute tried to knock down the lone unstunned enemy beast, but only scored a pushback. That same beast was able to dodge away, scoop up the ball, gfi and throw a perfect pass to the lone other player, a warrior in the center of the pitch, who was tied up with They Look Sophisticated.
Turn 8, it all comes down to this play....Mr. Sophisticated was able to knock down the fierce enemy warrior, and the ball dropped perfectly closer to They Lost The Last Years Of Their Life - The WORST Ones! The Last Years was able to grab the ball, gfi to 10 Minute and hand off. It was all 10 Minute could do to ignore the enemy beast standing on the sideline, but the end zone was in range. Could he make the gfi to the promised land? NO!!!! He failed!. Good thing he's a real pro, and was able to reroll his gfi, advancing to tie the match.
We receive the ball in OT, and give up another Blitz! Good thing the opposing players forgot to blitz any of our players. Each side was able to field 5 players. Jockeying for position, most of the brutes were tangled in the middle of the pitch. A both down result for the enemy 4AG/Claw beast sent him off the pitch, knocked out. A risky blitz on The Last Years again resulted in a both down, stunning the blitzer and finding the ball land right in They Stay SO Thin's hands. Pressing our advantage, a foul to Pushed! resulted in a niggling injury. With that, the enemy forces gave up, prefering to stay prone rather than face the onslaught.
They Stay SO Thin was able to wait out the remaining turns and score the clincher in turn 8 of OT.
A classic match that found the Smokers snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for a change, and then smashing the enemies to bits.
Thanks Impaladan for such a great match. We look forward to meeting again on the field. Maybe you should have kept some of that cash for new players after all :D”
