Corporate Fraud Chain Gang 2 - 1 League of Exhumed Gentlemen

Well, well, well, how the mighty have fallen. Many expected the Fraudsters to lose this game against the hard-hitting Gentlemen, but it was not the case, their cunning and skill won the day.

The match began with a show of intent from the Gentlemen with 2 KOs in the first 3 blocks leaving the Gangsters vulnerable and outnumbered. However, Christopher Skase saw his team were flagging and put in a heavy hit to badly hurt one of the Gentlemen’s key players, Allan Quartermain, who regerated and waited his chance to get back on the pitch and brutally mutilate one of the Gangsters. The Gentlemen made a run down the pitch and the first touchdown seemed iminent. However, the teams were evened up when Nick Leeson saw an opportunity to push the hapless Dorian Gray into the crowd for a KO.

Tom Sawyer had made a solo run for the line, but the strength and skill of the Gangsters proved vital as they broke away from their men and made a spectacular blitz to knock him to the ground and then follow up to collect the ball. The infuriated Gentlemen stormed the small pocket of Frausters who were protecting the ball carrier, but in his haste Mina Harker tripped over her own feet and the Gangsters were able to move the ball out of reach of the Gentlemen. Or so they thought.

The prospect of scoring a touchdown proved too exciting for Alan Bond who threw a block at an unsuspecting, skillless zombie, but his sloppy technique left the door open for the Gentlemen to wreak some havoc and get the ball back. Nick Leeson was knocked to the ground and the ball spilt free, however, quick thinking from Christopher Skase and Scott Sullivan opened the way for Mr Leeson to again collect the ball and stroll over for a touchdown. 1-0 to the Fraudsters.

The second half started well for the Gentlemen with the brilliance of their away supporters shocking the fraudsters into a stunned silence allowing the Gentlemen to quickly rearrange their defence. However, the heavy hitting defence from the Gentlemen was of little use as the slippery elves slipped between the fingers of their opponents and made off down field in an array of elvish skill rarely seen. The arrogance of the gangsters knew no limits as they dodged and weaved with gay abandon. Christopher Skase ran the ball down the wing as Tom Sawyer made one last ditch effort to bring him to ground, he tripped up and the ball was quickly handed off to Nick Leeson who went in for his second touchdown. 2-0 Gangsters.

The final drive for the Gentlemen was going well, a solid cage and some very touch players in the surrounding areas. There was a good spread a seemingly inpentrable defensive line. However, the skill and experience of veteran Fraudster Kenneth Lay became obvious as he saw a small jink in his opponents defence and exploited it, attacking from behind enemy liens and bringing the ball carrier to the ground. Hopeful for a third fraudster touchdown the crowd waited with baited breath as the ball sailed towards the lumbering Gentlemen mummy. Success!!! He takes the ball and as nothing had happened, the Gentlemens drive continues down the field. Some more successful blocking lead to Tom Sawyer making easy ground and scoring the corner, 2-1 Gangsters.

Overall a very promising game for the Gangsters, their first win in the Premier and a good result to keep their win/draw/loss looking as healthy as ever. The bitter taste of defeat last match has inspired a few of the players to better performances this week. It has also had some other effects with young Nick Leeson clearly hitting the roids recently and Daniel Bayly’s mean streak becoming even more evident of late. Great game gentlemen, I look forward to our next encounter.
