An exciting opening match for the Witches confirmed the value of good teamwork over brute strength, horns, and, sometimes, tentacles. The first half began with a powerhouse drive by the Poledancers, speeding their way down the left side of the pitch at an exhillarating pace of one, sometimes even two, spaces a turn, in the renowned "cluster" formation. After bouncing off several times, the witches managed to push the unlucky ballcarrier poledancer out of bounds, where rabid fans had their way with her, leaving her badly hurt. The ball bounced into the confident hands of Quarterback/chief headologist Esme Weatherwax who blasted the ball upfield for a 8-turn touchdown. At halftime, Ms. Weatherwax protested against the referee's callous treatment of one of her gals; Jessica the Poledancer quite visibly spent 5 turns intentionally stomping on the head of the already stunned blitzlady Tiffany Aching (nomen est omen).
The second half started rather haphazardly, as ball possession switched teams due to some unforseen and unforseeable goings-on, inculding the shock 1st turn interception by poledancer beastlady Destiny and many ensuing blocks and blitzes. Still, the already weakened rotter team could not deal with the loss of additional players to knockouts and, more importantly, expulsions due to foul play. After having scored for 2:0, the Witches were already preparing to defend till the final whistle, but, having spotted the opportunity, performed one final blitz action, and found themselves in the opportunity to score one final touchdown. The play well executed, the crowd cheered as rookie Eskarina Smith ran victoriously into the en-zone... and tripped at her final yard! The score thus settled at 2:0, the teams retired to the locker rooms.
"I'm not mad at young Esk. Rookie mistakes happen. Besides, that kid's got nerves of steel, she'll be Right as Rain with a bit of work," Ms. Weatherwax commented.”
