“This game was brutal and I feel lucky to escape with only a single death out of this match. With a stronger looking Undead African Carnivores lined up as the opposition, beastman Suum Cuique Tribuere was bulked up with illegal drugs to compensate for the gap in team strength.
The undead were quick out the blocks on their defense, opening with a blitz in which the aptly named Lion killed beastman Para Bellum with the first hit of the game. Fortunately the apothecary was sober today and patched him up on the spot. As if having no apothecary for the entire game was not bad enough, the first half was so uneven - the VeV players were obviously intimidated. Fortunately the ball carrying ghoul failed a dodge and my players were skilled enough to retrieve the ball and escape downfield away from the over-committed Undead African Carnivores players.
Malitrius still had enough time to score an equaliser before the break, which was made even easier by my agile tackling beastman Acta Non Verba needing a reroll to dodge and hitting skulls on the ball carrier.
Second half, their drive, and it was opened with a get the ref. Opening foul - a death. I had to take a moment to seriously consider conceding. In the end, I played on, and set about minimizing fouling opportunities. Firstly, hit the fouler, secondly, spread my players. It turned out not just to help prevent gang fouls but also to be a brilliant defensive tactic. Unable to cage, a ghoul tried to sneak around the side, and he was immediately taken down by a tackler. The other agile beastman Citius Altius Fortius grabbed the ball from under the nose of a mummy and threw it back to Acta Non Verba. The spread of defensive players made it too hard for Malitrius to navigate enough pressure around the ball and, even though he did knock Acta Non Verba down, I still managed to retrieve the ball and send Suum Cuique Tribuere clear for the winner.
