Always nice to see a predictably unbiased match report!! I sometimes wonder, however, which matches these reporters have been watching, because their write-ups very often only tell half the story.

The Summer Slam, or Summer SCAM as some critics are calling it, saw a team of very fast rats pitted against sluggish undead players, and positively snail's pace dwarves. A very clever move on the part of the experienced organiser.

It proved too much for the New York Slayers, but the Tacit Urns were determined to try and negate this contrived advantage. In the first half, they did a marvellous job of doing just that, and successfully held the sneaky rats at bay. Unfortunately, (and it is good to see that, in a changing fantasy world, some things remain constant), Hepworthnot's famous luck factor was working overtime.

It didn't matter how many times Dwain was hit, he never seemed to go down. And in the second half, the Rats' luck went into overdrive - fortunate bounces, fumbles by the opppostion, lucky hits - you name it, it was all there.

As we look forward to the Cracked Cup Championship, or CCC as people are already calling it, questions remain to be answered about the farce that was the Summer Slam. As my colleague said in his unofficial report - watch this space!

#4 Chucker – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#9 Ratman – Broken Ribs (MNG)
#9 Ratman – Serious Concussion (-AV)
The short but spectacular Summer Slam came to a dramatic if predictable conclusion. Once again there was a heatwave but the teams seemed better prepared and managed to cope with the heat. Of course one of the teams were dwarves so hardly likely to break out into a sweat.
The first half saw the Tacit Urns waste possession and fail to score although they did cause damage with both Chucker and Ratman suffering injuries which will keep them out of their next games. Indeed scans have shown that Ratman has suffered permanent underlying damage which is likely to make him vulnerable to further injury and may well cut short a promising career.

The second half started with tactical naivety from Creekmoor astonishing the 40,000 crowd by talking to the field without a single full back. They compounded the error by kicking straight into touch so Dwain was given the ball. His teammate having made the clearing block inexplicably followed up apparently blocking Dwain's run. Or was it a deliberate ploy to allow Dwain to embarrass the the short arse dwarf defence by leaping over the bewildered would be tacklers. He sprinted clear to touch down unopposed.

A fumble at the re-start left the dwarves again in disarray. The Rats stormed round the ball in their pack formation and the lone dwarf was caught short. A simple lay off allowed Pack to cross the whitewash unopposed for his maiden TD.

Sad to report that despite the presence of 40,000 paying fans the dwarves gave up and made no effort to get back into the match, maybe that's why many fans swapped allegiance at the end of the game.

So the Rusland Rats came into the tournament clear underdogs having failed to win either of their first two matches but two wins, 6 TDs for and none against says it all. This team is hungry for more success - watch this space!
