“Kri played his Elves very well, it seemed like they were everywhere at once, even when they were outnumbered. His blodging sidestepping blitzers were very difficult to handle, I think blocked one of them 4 times and only ended up improving his position! Eventually I gave up blocking them and tried bypassing them instead. Late in the game I realized that if you can occupy all useful squares, the sidestepper will have to move away on a pushback, which can be useful in scrums. Tackle is the real answer, but I feel you need Block AND Tackle on the same player to be effective.
I only caged properly once, on the drive where I scored. The other drives I left too big a gap between the ball-protectors and the LOS, and the elves took the initiative and disrupted the proto-cage, keeping me off balance the entire drive.
Maybe I should hold off committing large forces to the LOS blocking war until the cage is secure, taking only initial blocks of opportunity.
On defense, I seem to have trouble preventing large numbers of elves from establishing themselves in scoring position on the first turn of opponent's drive. Kri's post-game advice was to defend deeper, I'll give it a shot.
Kri was a pleasant individual to play against and I look forward to meeting him again.
