“Gondolin XX - 145 Mini League Wroxall Rockers 145 1-0 Toon World
Close matches seem to go hand in hand with the Wroxall Rockers with the result usually being a 1-0 defeat. But Nuffle was smiling on the dwarf side as they collected their first win under the 145 League banner.
The dwarves started the first half with possesion, forming a cage around runner Forest Gump. The Khemri team ploughed into the Rockers line of Longbeards but an unusual play by the dwarves switching from the right to the opposite flank left the Khemri team on the backfoot and with a line of longbeards between them and the 2 dwarf runners, Toon World's lack of pace was found out.
Realising that the ball was now out of their reach Toon World concentrated their efforts on pounding the dwarves into the ground. Just before the end of the half Forest Gump ran the ball in for the only TD of the game.
The 2nd half began with the skeletons of Toon World struggling to pick up the ball while their mummies once again resumed their pounding of the dwarf frontline. The rest of the half saw the Rockers adopting an almost elvish tactic of surrounding the huddled Khemri but standing back from them taunting them to break through their lines. For the most part the Khemri team seemed rather subdued but with 2 plays to go Toon World suddenly burst to life.
With the clock running down their last throw of the dice saw their blitz-ra, Flash Gordon push back the dwarf blitzer, Da Bomber, skip through the tackle zones of both dwarf runners and head for the endzone. Just as the Rockers coach thought that his team was about to concede and end the game with a draw, Nuffle showed his favour was with the dwarves and Flash Gordon tripped as he was about to score the TD. The dwarves mopped up the game with afew blocks as time ran out.”
