“Gondolin XX - 145 Mini League Trags Troughs 2-1 Wroxall Rockers

The mood should have been good coming into this game for the Wroxall Rockers after winning their previous 2 matches but some trepidation was felt as they prepared to face the Dark elves of Trags Troughs. Of course they weren't scared of the opposition, these were ponsey elves even if they were the dark sort. But some dwarves can be abit in awe of the pace and agility of elves.
And all too quickly the Dark Elves showed their finese and skill as the 2 linemen Fred Hardy and Billy Funter linked up for the first score of the game.

The kickoff return landed close to the halfwayline and stretched the pace of the dwarves as they tried to protect and recover the ball. The rest of the first half saw the Troughs frustrate the Rockers as they tried to move the ball towards the endzone. In the last few moments of the first half the Rockers made a desperate move with Blitzer Grug Chokethroat making a dash through the lines followed by a short pass to Runner, Forest Gump. But the Dark Elf Linemen were on hand to takedown Gump and the Rockers hopes of scoring in the first half were dashed.

In the 2nd half the Troughs relentlessly pursued ball carrier Grimble Getahead as the dwarves grinded their way downfield running down the clock as they went. Eventually the Troughs defence broke down and a hole opened up. But this left the Rockers with a choice. Should they try to keep the hole open and run down the clock forcing a draw or score and risk giving the ball back to Trags Troughs. In a split second decision Getahead ran the ball in for the TD figuring that scoring was the better option rather than lose the opportunity and lose the game 1-0.

Ultimately the decision not to stall cost them the game as the Dark Elves of Trags Troughs showed how easy it was to slip in and out of dwarf tackle zones, Jimmy Sandle scoring a TD in the last seconds of the game to make it 2-1 to the Troughs.

Head Coach Bobafettsmum proceeded to take off his cap and eat it before placing a large bounty on the referees head for not blowing the whistle before the Troughs scored.
