The 40miners got off to a victorious start by winning a battle of attrition against Chaosmania. In a game that was low on finesse but high on brute force, it was the Dwarves greater skill at blocking that eventually saw them prevail.
A key moment in the first half, saw the Mania's well worked drive towards the endzone come to halt as their Warrior, Gorilla, committed an inexplicable turnover attempting an innocuous block against the steadfast Gothilsan. The resultant loss of momentum gave the Dwarves time to re-organise their defense and keep the scores level at half-time.
The Mania kicked off the second half severely understaffed thanks to the Miners powerful blocking. The Runner, Steif Old, gained plaudits for his cruel block that crippled the Beastman Xorn smashing his ankle. Runey Lot added to their misery by shoving Spinecrasher into the stands where his devoted fans became a little too overzealous in greeting their hero and left him with a broken jaw. Despite this their defense was resolute in stopping the Miners’ drive, and briefly regained possession. But thanks to their disciplined blocking the miners recovered the ball. Mountaina cooly scooped up the loose ball and left the midfield scrum of bodies for the end-zone and the winning score. ”
