“A peculiar match, the stats tell the tale pretty well - plenty of blocks by both teams, but one with very little ball handling/movement as the Amazons sought to outmuscle the Orcs.
The Amazons received the ball and then spent an entire half concentrating on blocking. In an 8 turn drive the ball never looked like entering the opposition half of the field. Two receivers were rushed into the backfield where they waited in vain for a pass as every spare woman was hurled into a growing melee in the middle of the field. The result was an insipid contest of block and counter block with not even a proper casualty to rouse the crowd. The only spectacle was provided by the Amazon commitment to the foul from turn 1 onwards and the crowd surfing of one stray linewoman in turn 4.
Half time saw the Lions receive the kick and set about asserting their Orky nature with a sequence of moderately effective blocks and a total failure to pick up the ball. The Amazons continued their obsession with the foul and ended the match with four players sent off.
The only completed pass of the game came in turn 4 as Gregor Townsend finally collected the ball and slipped up to the LOS to lob it to Blitzer #7 Dallagio who jogged through the wide open defense towards the line. With only four turns to play caution took over and the Lions formed a huddle just on the tryline daring the Amazons to challenge them for the ball before trotting in for the score in turn 8. Meanwhile the Amazons set about putting the boot into the remains of the Orc Line.
After a final kickoff/foul the score remained 1-0 to the Lions - against expectations the only casualties were caused by the AV7 dodge specialists and the only pass attempts were by the slow moving and error prone Orcs. ”
