Hi again ;)

Can't help giggling a bit... :D

You do sound very green - but hey, we've all been there.

*) The game was FAR from brutal...2 casualties... Losing 5 players on 4 turns where 3 are KOs and 1 BH and 1 SI no perm. inj. is not really an impossible situation. When you have had a game with 7+ casualties against with 2 kills and 2 SI - let's talk again. ;)

*) You had a 13 player team to start with, I had 10 (due to "greatest" handicap).

*) There was sweltering heat... Which is a CLEAR advantage to your team (elfs). The fewer players we have on the pitch the better AG4 players become. Since caging up or covering the ball is impossible.

*) Regarding stalling - it is hardly stalling staying with a thrower carrying the ball on my own half... if that is stalling then backing down covering you own half would be so too.

* In fact I made a gfit without a reroll to score to 3-0 without you having a single player within range. So that was friendlier than 90% of your opponents would ever be. I will bet you on that.

*) Playing an elf team you literally want me to score. Meaning you want me to have an illusion that it is indeed possible rolling a few dice perhaps. You want to grind down my rerolls forcing me to play ball. Backing down on you own half boxing up is playing my game not your own. And sending a lone blitzer is just giving my an easy choice when and where I should blitz...HIM!

*) Rush my ball carrier with more than 1 player - 3-4 players of your team or more... put pressure on the ball carrier...force me to score...force me to use rerolls. If I score - I score, you get a kick-off and have prolly still a full team, or maybe at worst 1-2 in the KO box for knock in.

*) You want to go to 4-5th turn of a half with both of us with no rerolls and if the score is 2-2 then who cares...

*) Since my team is ALL ag3... it is pretty obvious I cannot play the same game as you. If so, then I would chose playing an elf team (which I in fact do 80% of the time).

*) In the first matches in a teams history, let's say 5-6 matches you can easily match many teams for "a light bashing" in a few turns. But after that you need to play like an elf team. Meaning you road to SPPs is by scoring, not making casualties. I this game you had 9 vs. 6 players (due to sweltering heat) for 1 kick-off and being behind 3-0. Don't use up 3 players at the line of scrimage for random blocks so that you cannot make a cage with the ball up on my half.

PM me if you want any clarifications or help.

First game vs. a DP and a harsh lesson.

Normally my team can manage vs humans in bashing, but I underestimated the power of his STR4/MB/Tackle/Guard blitzers. There's no hiding from those guys. Lost 5 players in 1st few turns, then ClaudeX stalled and chased my remaining players, fouling them with his DP if they stayed down. He explained that fouling is an incentive for them to get up, so he can get more SPP's and/or more players off, standard play vs Elves according to him. He cares more about team development than winning any single match. Pretty brutal, but he said there are players out there even harsher - and I believe him.

I don't subscribe to the same degree of thinking that [R] is about SPP's but there are a few things I take away from this:

1) Don't play vs DP's, Claw, RSC. Even MB, if on multiple dangerous players.

2) Avoid teams that give up a lot of match-winning potential for bashing power such as Ogres and Khemri.

3) Avoid coaches with ClaudeX's philsophy (at this time).

Reasons for the above are same as ClaudeX's long-term SPP philsophy ... best way to deal with bloody minded players/teams/coaches is to avoid them.

4) You want to keep your TS higher than your TR. Best way to do that is spread SPP's around, this keeps the number of skills high relative to your TR (which is used to determine handicaps). Elves have an advantage here b/c it's relatively easy to skill their lino's and ST3/AG4 is an excellent base to build on. The long term strength of an elven team comes from having many threats rather a few key players.

Valuable lesson but I can't afford to take the risk to team health very often. Was lucky this time and got away lightly.
