“Crossing the pitch, Kondor shook hands with Coach Borton and congratulated him on a well coached match.

This one had been brutal for the Mimes. It began with Kondor making the error of putting a man too close to the sideline as he forgot that there was a frenzied player on the field. The result was an early crowd surf that could have been avoided.

From there, things simply became painful with the undead opening the match with a foul that got the blood flowing on the pitch. Yet, this was the kind of match Mignon had been training for. Once four elves pulled one mummy to the ground, she hurried over an put in the boot sending it to the Ko box. Then the swarm moved on the other mummy and after knocking it down, she sent it to the Ko box as well.

With both of the heavy hitters on the bench, the Mimes worked to extract the ball. After tearing it loose, there was a dance to retain it at midfield for most of the half. Finally, Antionette broke free with the ball and sprinted for the southern endzone.

She scored, but the half had been brutal. The rookie Chantal had been fouled to death, and the apothecary failed to keep Edmee alive. The loss of the rookie was one thing, but Edmee will be missed.

Still, the mimes entered the second half with the lead, the ball, and six standing elves. Now, they did their best to employ the only tactic they had left. (By the way, the mummies both recovered from their earlier injuries.) They ran. Antionette and four other elves took the ball and backed away from the line of scrimmage. Clotilde hurdled the line of zombies and ran for the other endzone in case of a desperation pass. The undead came in full force sending a wight and ghoul after Clotilde, while everyone else came after the ball carrier.

It was almost a storybook ending for the Mimes. Mignon took the hand off from Antionette, and made a bold dash down the Northern sideline past the undead lines while Clotilde came over to give her cover. Clotilde and Mignon worked well together as they moved down the field. They avoided three waves of two waves of determined blitzers and were within sight of the endzone when Mignon finally fell.

As they had been acting on their own, when Rummage picked up the ball, there was little to be done to stop him. He made a long walk down the pitch to score the final game tying point.
