That's right 4 to 1. Against a Wood Elf team. And the dorfs have the 4. Of course the Wood Elf team did only start with 10 players.... But that doesn't matter. What matters is that after several disappointing games and a couple weeks sitting on the sidelines, the Blues is back! We even learned a new tune, "Mr. Banker" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and we love it. Thanks Sumicus!

The Boys in Big Hats won the coin toss and elected to receive (mostly to begin bringing the pain early...). When we went to take the field we were a bit puzzled. We thought someone had planted a big old tree right there in the middle of the pitch, but it turned out that was The Hard One, the Treeman the Lumberjack Babies II had bought for our match.

A Bad Kick on the kick-off placed the ball in Bull Centaur B.B. King's hands (had we known he'd score three times this game we'd have given it to John Lee Hooker, but B.B. was a touchdown from skilling up so he got it). We began our march down the field and the Elves set up a nice defense against it, one square away from the cage forming a nice wall. Rather than obliging the Elves by charging the wall, we began to run around it. Lineelf Flap Jackie helped us out on this by going down on a GFI early in the Lumberjack Babies II's turn and B.B. was off. The Elves did manage to get a tacklezone on King but Hobgoblin T-bone Walker blitzed him away and B.B. went "Sneakin' Around" into the endzone.

The Lumberjack Babies II set up and, in typical Elfy fashion, opened a hole in our defense and pranced through, forming a screen around the ball carrier. CD Blocker Robert Johnson badly hurt Flap Jackie trying to get to the ball but Bull Centaur John Lee Hooker fouled up his blitz, which would have at least allowed us to put a tacklezone on the ball carrier, with a both down roll that we couldn't re-roll. On the bright side, he did manage to BH Lineelf Chesea Chopper before eating turf. Knowing what was good for him, Babies' Catcher Teeny Sawdust ran the ball in for the touchdown.

This left us with two turns in which to respond, a daunting task for most dorf teams but with two AG 3 bull centaurs we felt we might just be up to the challenge. The first indication that this might be harder than expected came when a rock flew from the stands and stunned B.B. King; the second came when the ball landed directly in the endzone on the kick-off. Still, we persevered. T-bone picked up the ball and passed it to Hobgoblin Lightning Hopkins, who handed-off to John Lee Hooker, who started down the field. As B.B. King, who was supposed to provide some cover, was laid out by a rock, John Lee's protection was rather thin and Wardancer Pauline Bunyan managed to take him down with a single-die block. Hobgoblin 'Joliet' Jake Blues dodged out to provide an assist and John Lee, who wasn't going to score now, blitzed to free the ball. Lightning Hopkins dashed in and grabbed the ball, making a quick pass to Hobgoblin Elwood Blues standing on the other side of the scrum, supposedly providing protection. Elwood caught the ball and, with a little extra effort, bounced into the endzone like a "Rubber Biscuit".

Even the Woodies couldn't score in the one turn left in the half but their fans didn't seem to care, lobbing in another rock, this time stunning CD Blocker Muddy Waters.

Fired up by our success in the first half, the Bluesmen got the jump on the Woodies at the beginning of the second, pulling off a Blitz. We probably overextended ourselves though, especially since we couldn't manage to get even one tacklezone on the ball, and the Lumberjack Babies II attempted that Elfy dash and score play again. They didn't have quite the same coverage as last time though and we managed to put our Guards to good use; 'Joliet' Jake hit the ball carrier, popping the ball loose, and B.B. King ran back to scoop it up. Pauline Bunyan went down on a dodge right after The Hard One rooted himself blocking away Bluestroll Howlin' Wolf and B.B. King had plenty of room to run. He didn't get far, though, before Lineelf Skookum Miter sacked him. The Silly Hats managed to clear the ball and B.B. snatched it up again, only to be hit again by +ST Lineelf Chinook Jargon, but was only pushed this time. CD Blocker Junior Wells knocked Chinook away from B.B., KOing him, and B.B., showing why he's the King of the Blues, charged into the endzone once more.

Chinook returned for the new drive but Pauline Bunyan quickly took his place in the KO box as the Blues fans showed that they can chuck rocks too. Another set-up and what was clearly going to be yet another attempt at the dash-and-score until Lineelf Jig Ripper KO'd himself dodging, leaving the ball carrier with minimal protection behind the LOS. Seizing the opportunity, B.B. King blitzed and stunned the ball carrier, Lineelf Stemy SmallOaks. Not to be outdone, Howlin' Wolf stunned The Hard One. Trying to recover the ball, Chinhook provided yet another display of Elfly agility and KO'd himself dodging and the Mad Hatters were back in business. Showing no mercy, B.B. KO'd Lineelf Skookum Miter. Hoping to give John Lee Hooker a chance to score, Jake Blues attempted to provide him a path to the ball but failed with a pushback, forcing John Lee to blitz the defender away, which he did, but then failed to pick up the ball; fortunately, Jake recovered it on the bounce. The Hard One blew the blitz, failing to stand up, and the Lumberjack Babies lost their last chance to score. Junior Wells KO'd Stemy SmallOaks and Jake handed off to B.B., being the only one in range to score, and, like a "Sweet Little Angel", he ran in his third touchdown of the game.

Awesome write up!!
Reading it made the loss worth while.

If you ever want a pick up game, please ask.
You sure did "Rubber Biscuit" my team into the dug out with dorfy power!!
Sound like you listened to Mr. Banker. Yes, that is great Bluesy song from Skynard.

Again, thanks brother for the game.
