“Fumbbl Cup VII 2nd round match

Wow, what a match.

I usually don't do match reports, but now I just have to. This was probably the most intense game I've played so far and this time Nuffle was on my side.

Handicaps against us were palmed coin, extra training and Morley's revenge on three players (ouch), two of them ogres and one gobbo. Both ogres missed the first drive so we had to start with 10 guys on the pitch.

Harlekins quickly spread out into our half and while were able to put some pressure on the ball and even hit it away from them, they quickly recovered it through Ovenkahva not being able to pick up the ball and scored 1-0 in turn 6.

That left us 3 turns to score. In theory there was enough time to run the ball in, but I decided to set up for a TTM from the start. Turn 8 and Kynnysmatto was flown through the air and managed to land (using a reroll) 5 squares from the endzone. 3 succesful dodges (go stunty!) and first half ended 1-1.

Start of the second half, Morley's has no effect and we field 11 players. 9 ogres and 2 goblins. Harlekins kick off and get the ref. We hit their los and badly hurt two elfs (apo was used already in first half). They reply by knocking Kynnysmatto down and foul him smashing his collar bone (-ST). After careful consideration, apo is told to keep sitting down, as we figure -ST isn't that bad on a dp gobbo (at least it adds character!).

We go on, build a cage and their wardancer leaps in and knocks the ball loose. We are able to recover it, but not cage it and Lyhtypylväs is knocked down and Harlekins go 2-1 up.

By now, welfs are down to 8 players and we still have 4 turns to score. We cage and their wardancers continue their leaping blitzes on the ball, at times knocking it away from us, but we recover and focus on keeping the cage together. They spend some rerolls and can't stop our advance and on 8th turn we level it to 2-2.

Now it's down to their oneturner Carow to win the game for them, but Nuffle has chosen otherwise. He fails his last dodge and falls into my endzone. We go to overtime and we get to receive, yay.

Overtime starts 9 vs. 9, 8 ogres and 1 gobbo for us. Same thing all over again, we get a touchback and keep our main focus on protecting ball carrier Lyhtypylväs with lots of guard. Again a leaping wardancer hits the ball loose on turn 3, but the Harlekins thrower who collected the ball fumbles it when he was going to pass it to an open catcher. We recover the ball and cage our way to a turn 8 score for 3-2.

Now once again, the outcome of the game rests in the hands of Carow, who again fails his last dodge and falls over to our endzone. Game over and a great (and lucky) win for us! \o/

As for the opposing coach I have to say I enjoyed playing every minute against Dirtyplayer and he made the game even more fun with plenty of in game chatting and also took all his unlucky moments really well.
